Ballerina Stakes
The Ballerina Stakes is an American Grade I Thoroughbred horse race. The Grade I event is contested each year during the last week of August at Saratoga Race Course and is open to fillies and mares, ages three and up. It is raced at a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt for a purse of $250,000.
Part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, the winner of the 2008 Ballerina Stakes automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. Named for Howell E. Jackson's filly, Ballerina, who won the 1954 inaugural running of the Maskette Stakes.
