Promising 2-year-olds ready for black type in Schenectady

December 10, 2019

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Friday's $100,000 Schenectady Stakes at Saratoga Race Couse, for 2-year-olds at 5 ½ furlongs on the Mellon turf course, features a field of five males and two fillies ready to add black type to their resume.

Entering for trainer Wesley Ward and Hat Creek Racing following a start at the prestigious Royal Ascot meet, is Bruised Orange. A daughter of City Zip, Bruised Orange began her career winning a 4 ½-furlong sprint at Keeneland on April 8 and followed that performance with a start in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot, where she finished 12th in a field of 20.

Drawing post position 7, Bruised Orange will depart with Rafael Hernandez in the irons.

A half to multiple graded stakes winner Discreet Marq, Too Discreet, for trainer Christophe Clement and owner Patricia Generazio, enters off a stellar debut on August 2 at Saratoga. After being bumped at the break, she quickly regrouped under Joel Rosario to extend in the stretch and win by 2 ½ lengths. Set to depart from the rail, Too Discreet will retain Rosario while facing winners for the first time.

Trainer Adam Rice will send out Don't Be So Salty, who broke his maiden against open company on August 2 while ridden by his sister, Taylor Rice. The speedy colt drew post 5 and will again be ridden by Taylor.

Rice will also enter Montauk Cove, owned by his grandfather, Clyde Rice. With four starts in his career, Montauk Cove is the most experienced runner in the field. Last out, he encountered a difficult trip to finish seventh in the Tyro Stakes on August 9 at Monmouth Park.

Dr. Shane will go out for trainer Nicholas Esler and Dutchess Views Farm. The son of Freud will try turf and receive Lasix for the first time. Last out, he finished third in the Rockville Center Stakes on July 18 at Belmont Park.

One Mean Man, who most recently broke his maiden on July 19 at Ellis Park, completes the field for trainer Ron Marquette. Laxfield Road is entered for owners Wes Welker and Spellman Kent, but competed in the Bolton Landing on Wednesday.
