Consumer Credit a Standout in Herecomesthebride (G3)

December 10, 2019

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Klaravich Stables and William H. Lawrence’s Consumer Credit will put a three-race win streak on the line when she goes to the post in Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile $150,000 Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park.

The 3-year-old daughter of More Than Ready has not lost since breaking her maiden over a yielding turf course at Belmont Park on Oct. 25 in her third career start. She stepped up to stakes company following that effort, and she successfully graduated when she captured the Wait a While Stakes at Gulfstream Park West on Nov. 15 by an emphatic 3 ¾ lengths. That race would be the final start of her 2-year-old season.

After a two-month freshening, the Chad Brown trainee returned for her sophomore and graded stakes debut in the Sweetest Chant (G3) at Gulfstream on Jan. 24, and again she came away with a victory. She gave Brown his fourth straight triumph in the race, having won the previous three editions with Ready to Act (2014), Premier Steps (2013), and Dayatthespa (2012). Ready to Act would go on to win the Beaumont (G2), while Dayatthespa would win the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) and earn the Eclipse Award as the nation’s top female grass horse in 2014. Dayatthespa also won the Herecomesthebride during her 2012 campaign.

Following her own win in the Sweetest Chant, Brown said that Consumer Credit fit right in with that group of talented fillies at that point in their careers.

“All the fillies that have won that race all turned out to be really nice, and she’d fit in with all of them,” Brown said. “These are still young fillies at this stage when you’re talking about January of their 3-year-old year, so there’s still a lot of development to go, but as far as where all of those fillies were at this stage, they’re very close. She ranks right up there with them.”

What makes Consumer Credit’s victories all the more impressive is how the fillies that finished behind her have performed since. The Todd Pletcher-trained Resilient One, who finished 2 ¼ lengths behind Consumer Credit when she broke her maiden, would go on to break her own maiden in her next turf start, at Gulfstream on Dec. 21, while Tap It Out, third in that race at Belmont, would also get a victory at Gulfstream’s Championship Meeting, scoring on Jan. 15. Further boasting Consumer Credit’s resume, Lismore, second in the Wait a While, would cross the wire first in her next start, a Gulfstream allowance on Feb. 16, though she would be placed second that day by the stewards for interference.

The Herecomesthebride became the target immediately after the Sweetest Chant, and Brown has been pleased with how Consumer Credit has trained up to the race. The Kentucky-bred most recently breezed four furlongs in 50.25 seconds on Feb. 22 at Palm Meadows.

“She’s doing really well,” Brown said. “She’s on quite a roll right now. She’s won three in a row and seems to be training as good as ever. I look forward to running her.”

Edgard Zayas, who has been aboard for both of Consumer Credit’s stakes wins, will be in the irons yet again in the Herecomesthebride. Brown said he will let Gulfstream’s fourth-leading rider call the shots when it comes to laying out a trip for his filly.

“I’ll leave it up to the jockey,” he said. “[Zayas] gets along really well with her, so I’m going to leave it up to him.”

Stronach Stables’ Devine Aida enters the Herecomesthebride with her own three-race win streak. The grey daughter of Unbridled’s Song similarly has not lost since notching her first victory at Gulfstream Park West on Oct. 25 in what was her second career outing. That race was on dirt, but the Ramon Morales-trained filly switched surfaces for her next start, an allowance at Gulfstream West on Nov. 15. The terrain was different, but the end result was the same; Devine Aida won by a hard-fought nose. She would follow up that performance by winning her stakes debut in Gulfstream’s Ginger Brew Stakes on Jan. 3. The Herecomesthebride will be Devine Aida’s first try racing beyond 7 furlongs.

Mark H. Stanley’s Temper Mint Patty will make her turf debut in the Herecomesthebride, but her past form suggests she could take well to the grass. A daughter of Congrats, she won the Joseph A. Gimma Stakes Belmont Park over a muddy racetrack by a widening 13 ½ lengths as a 2-year-old. She most recently finished fourth in Gulfstream’s Old Hat Stakes (G3) in her sophomore debut on Jan. 3. The New York bred is one-half of a Dale Romans duo that will contest the Herecomesthebride; the other half is Sweet Swingin, who similarly will be trying turf for the first time after running first and second in two starts at Gulfstream this winter.

Quality Rocks, the Sweetest Chant runner-up, and Pine Needles, who will contest a graded stake in her second career start after winning her debut at Gulfstream on New Year’s Day, also entered the Herecomesthebride. Arella Princess, Maddizaskar, and Tumminia round out the field.
