HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado will be out up to two months with six broken ribs after being unseated from his mount, Legs Like Betty, at the start of Sunday’s seventh race.
Prado’s agent, Bob Klesaris, said Monday morning original x-rays were clean, “but another scan revealed six broken ribs, three on each side.” Klesaris said Prado also had a laceration under his chin.
“It looks like six-to-eight weeks,” he said. “Ribs are tricky things. It could be four weeks and it could be eight weeks. We’ll just have to see what happens. He’s still in the hospital this morning but he could be released later today.”
Breaking from outside post 16 in the 7 ½-furlong maiden turf sprint, Legs Like Betty bolted to the outside fence and dumped the 48-year-old Prado before jumping the temporary outer rail onto the main track. After getting up, the 2-year-old filly ran to the top of the stretch before being caught by outriders.
