2017 San Felipe Stakes Entries at Santa Anita Park

Mastery - highly regarded Bob Baffert trained colt has three career starts with three impressive wins. His first was an overwhelming 4 1/4 length maiden score in a six furlong race at Santa Anita October 22 and his second was a successful step up into stakes company - a win by 1 1/4 length in the G3 Bob Hope Stakes at Del Mar November 19. Last time out was another eye-opening win - in the G1 Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity by 7 1/4 lengths December 10. Mastery hasn't been threatened so far and hopes to keep the undefeated streak Saturday from gate 4 with Mike Smith guiding him.

Gormley - John Shirreffs trained colt will hit the track for the fifth time Saturday. His first start resulted in a nice win by 4 1/4 lengths at Del Mar September 4 and his second was a terrific wire-to-wire three length win in the G1 FrontRunner Stakes on this track October 1. He enters of yet another impressive win - in the G3 Sham Stakes - a race he beat American Anthem and recorded a field best 102 Beyer Speed Figure here January 7 which followed his only career blemish - a seventh as third choice in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile on this track in November. Gormley has now won three of his four career starts and showed some serious resiliency last time out with his strong bounce back win. Victor Espinoza will try to keep the momentum going from post 5.

Iliad - Doug O'Neill trained Ringling has three career starts with two wins - last time out in his graded stakes debut he won by an impressive 3 1/2 lengths in the G2 San Vicente Stakes on this track February 12 and before that he won by 3 1/2 lengths with a 92 Beyer Speed Figure at Los Alamitos December 18. His first start resulted in a ninth place finish at Del Mar December 3. Iliad has shown serious improvement and has been untouched in his last two starts overall. He hopes to keep that trend going Saturday with Flavien Prat in the irons from gate 6.

Term of Art - Doug O'Neill trained colt has placed in four of seven career starts - two wins, a second and a third place finish. He enters off a fourth in the G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes on this track February 4 which followed a disappointing fifth in the G3 Sham Stakes here January 7 and a career-best effort - a win in the G3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar November 27. Before that was a ninth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and a maiden score on this track October 8. Term Of Art has been inconsistent so far and hopes for a second graded stakes score in four starts Saturday. Tyler Baze has been tabbed to ride from the rail.

Ann Arbor Eddie - Doug O'Neill trained gelding has three wins and a third place finish in his five career starts. He arrives off a career-worst effort however - a fourth as even-money favorite in the G3 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate February 18 which followed a nice two race win streak over California-breds - the restricted California Cup Derby at Santa Anita January 28 and the restricted King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos December 18 (both on dirt). Before that was a respectable third in the G3 Bob Hope Stakes at Del Mar November 19 and a maiden score at first asking. Ann Arbor Eddie has been a factor in every career start and hopes for a first graded stakes score from post 3. Mario Gutierrez will be in the saddle.

Vending Machine - has three wins and a second place finish in eight career starts for trainer Peter Miller. He arrives off a sixth in the minor California Derby at Golden Gate January 21, a nice win in the minor Eddie Logan Stakes here December 30 and a respectable second in his only graded stakes action to date - the G3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes at Del Mar November 27.He won two of his three previous starts against lesser competition as well. Vending Machine has two wins and a second in his last four starts overall but will be out to avenge an ugly performance when he leaves from gate 2 with Norberto Arroyo guiding him.

Bluegrass Envy - has just one runner-up finish in his five career starts for trainer Rasharn Cresque - all starts at Gulfstream. He arrives off a sixth in a MSW January 28 and a fifth, a second, and a pair of fourths respectively in a quartet of similar races to starts his career. Not a whole lot is expected from Bluegrass Envy when he leaves from the outside post 7 with Jacob Radosevich in the irons.
