Before that was a thirteenth in the minor Tropical Park Oaks at Gulfstream last December and three straight runner-up finishes in Allowance races in 2016. Penjade has been good against lesser company and has won four of her last five starts overall. Irad Ortiz tries to get Penjade her first graded stakes score from the rail.
Elysea's World
Irish bred Chad Brown trained filly has three wins, four seconds and two third-place finishes in 15 career starts. Before that was a fourth in the minor Fasig-Tipton De La Rose Stakes at Saratoga August 5, a fifth in the G3 Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes at Parx July 4, an OK third in the G3 Gallorette Stakes at Pimlico May 20 and consecutive seconds - the H2 Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay March 11 and the G3 Suwannee River Stakes at Gulfstream Park February 11. Elysea's World has been OK in her career but has yet to post a stakes score in 11 tries. Jockey Javier Castellano will try to change all of that Saturday from gate 4.
Responsibleforlove
Irish bred Neil Drysdale trained mare has placed in 10 of 12 career starts -four wins, four seconds and two third-place finishes. She arrives off an OK second as favorite in the G2 Red Carpet Handicap at Del Mar November 23 which followed a decent third in the G3 Rodeo Drive Stakes here September 30, a nice win in the CTT and TOC Handicap at Del Mar August 16 and consecutive seconds - the listed Possibly Perfect Stakes June 4 and the G3 Santa Barbara Stakes August 30 - both at Santa Anita. Before that was a seventh in her North American debut - the G2 Santa Ana Stakes in March, a third in the Premio Archidamia in Rome October 2, a tenth in the Group 2 Premio Oaks D'Italia in May and a three-race win streak including two stakes scores overseas to start her 2016 campaign. Responsibleforlove has been competitive so far and will be after a first North American graded stakes win. Joe Talamo will be in the saddle from the outside gate 6.
Laseen
Has just three wins in 30 career starts for trainer James Cassidy to go along with nine seconds and four third-place finishes. She made her graded stakes debut two starts back and finished fifth in the G2 Goldikova Stakes at Del Mar November 4 and followed that with an OK third in the G3 Red Carpet Handicap on that track November 23. Before that was a third and a second respectively in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races - one on this track in October. She failed to hit the board in her previous three starts including a sixth in the minor Luther Burbank Handicap at Santa Rosa in August. Laseen has been mostly underwhelming in her career but looks to build on a respectable effort last time out. Victor Espinoza has been tabbed to ride from post 3.
Gliding By
Richard Baltas trained filly has three wins, three seconds and a third-place finish in 17 career starts. She arrives on the heels of consecutive sixths - the minor River Memories Stakes at Woodbine November 3 and the G3 Seaway Stakes on that track August 26. Before that was an Allowance Optional Claiming score and three straight runner-up finishes in Allowance Optional Claiming races. She was sixth in her only other graded stakes start - the 2016 G3 Ontario Colleen Stakes. Gliding By hasn't been great in stakes company - decent against Allowance foes and hopes to finally get her elusive first stakes win from post 5. Rafael Bejarano rides.
Midnight Crossing
Irish bred Richard Baltas trainee has just two wins, two seconds and a third-place finish in her 17 career starts. She failed to place in her last four starts at home and has been just OK since shipping.
