World Approval 7-2 - Mark Casse trained gelding has seven wins, two seconds and four third place finishes in 19 career starts. Last time out was an easy 2 1/4 length win in the minor EG Vodka Turf Classic at Tampa Bay April 2 which followed six months away, a disappointing eighth in the G1 Pattison Canadian International in October and an OK third behind The Pizza Man and Wake Forest in the G1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at Woodbine September 17. Blacktype 4-1 - French bred Christophe Clement trained gelding has seven wins, three seconds and six third place finishes in 23 career starts. He enters on the heels of a fifth in the G1 Maker's 46 Mile at Keeneland April 14 which followed a second in the minor Artie Schiller Stakes at Aqueduct November 19, a third in the G3 Knickerbocker Stakes at Belmont Park in October and a nice two race win streak - the G3 Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth Park July 31 and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park July 3. Ring Weekend 4-1 - defending runner-up in this race returned from a 14 month layoff May 21 of last year for trainer Graham Motion and claimed that very respectable second in the G2 Dixie Stakes but has been up-and down since. Next was an uncharacteristic sixth in the G1 Fourstardave Handicap August 20 and a good win in the G2 Bernard Baruch Handicap at Saratoga September 5. He enters this week having failed to place in five of his last six starts - consecutive fourths - last time out in the G1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita March 11 and the G2 Arcadia Stakes on that track February 11 followed a fifth as favorite in the G3 San Gabriel Stakes January 7, a good win in the G2 Seabiscuit Handicap at Del Mar November 26 and consecutive uncharacteristic seventh place finishes - the BC Mile November 5 and the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland October 8. He also holds wins in the G3 Saranac Stakes in September, 2014 and the G3 Hill Prince Stakes a month later. Ring Weekend now has seven wins, four seconds and two third place finishes in 23 career starts and enters in typically inconsistent form. Before that was a third in the minor English Channel Stakes at Belmont Park in October and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Saratoga in August. Catapult has hit the board in four of his last five starts overall and hopes to place for the first time in graded stakes action in his third try. Javier Castellano will be in the reins from gate 8.
Security Risk 12-1 - Shug McGaughey trainee has four wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 14 career starts. He makes his graded stakes debut Saturday in OK form - last time out was an Allowance score in wire-to-wire fashion at Keeneland April 19 after a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream March 10, a sixth in the minor El Prado Stakes on that track December 17 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Aqueduct in November. He has been good against lesser competition and hopes it translates in his major step up Saturday - from the rail with Florent Geroux aboard.
Top of Mind 15-1 - has five wins, three seconds and a third place finish in 13 career starts for trainer Rodney Jenkins. He won two straight races last summer - the best of which was an Allowance Optional Claiming at Laurel Park in July and went on to a good second in the G2 Commonwealth Turf Cup on that track in September and another Allowance Optional Claiming score at Laurel Park in October. Last time out was a bit of a step back however - a sixth in the minor Henry S. Clark Stakes at Laurel Park April 22. Top of Mind has been OK and searches for his first stakes score Saturday from post 3. Victor Carrasco rides.
Conquest Typhoon 15-1 - two-time graded stakes winner in 2014 (the G2 Summer Stakes and G3 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes) finished fifth in this race last year during a stretch of three straight fifths in graded stakes action. He has been OK since - an Allowance Optional Claiming score last time out at Belmont Park May 4 followed a third in an Allowance at Keeneland April 19 and a sixth, a second and a fourth respectively in a trio of Allowance races. Conquest Typhoon has just four wins, seven seconds and two third place finishes in 22 career starts, has been up and down lately and will be after a first graded stakes score in 30 months Saturday. Mike Smith gets the call.
One Mean Man 20-1 - Bernard Flint trained colt has seven wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 22 career starts. He has five stakes wins - the best of which coming in the G3 American Derby at Arlington in July, 2016 - he had three more minor stakes wins last year including the Woodchopper Stakes at Fair Grounds December 31. One Mean Man has failed to place in three of his last four starts ahead of this weekend however - a sixth last time out in the minor Opening Verse Stakes at Churchill Downs May 4 followed a fifth in the G2 Muniz Memorial Handicap April 1, an OK third in the G3 Fair Grounds Handicap February 25 and a sixth in the G3 Colonel ER Bradley Handicap January 21. He was good last year but has struggled for the most part this year. He hopes to get back to form when he departs from post 5 with Corey Lanerie guiding him.
Talk Show Man 30-1 - finished eleventh in this race last year and hasn't been much better since. Last time out was a twelfth in the minor Henry S. Clark Stakes at Laurel Park April 22 after an eighth in the minor Richard W. Small Stakes on that track November 14, a fourth in the minor Maryland Million Classic in October and a sixth in the G2 Commonwealth Cup Stakes at Laurel Park last September.
