2017 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint Field & Odds at Del Mar
Unique Bella 9-5
Has six career starts for Jerry Hollendorfer with five wins and a second-place finish. She arrives on a terrific five-race win streak - the G3 LA Woman Stakes last time out October 8, the G3 Santa Ysabel Stakes March 4, the G2 Las Virgenes Stakes February 5, by 7 1/2 lengths in the G2 Santa Ynez Stakes January 8 (all at Santa Anita), an impressive 10 1/4 length maiden score at 6 1/2 furlongs on this track November 26 and a second as 1-5 favorite in her debut in June. Unique Bella has been untouchable the last year and hopes to keep an incredible run going Saturday from post 11 as the obvious morning line favorite.
Skye Diamonds 5-1
William Spawr trained filly has placed in 12 of 16 career starts - nine wins and three third place finishes. She made her graded stakes debut three starts back and finished a respectable second behind multiple graded stakes winner Vale Dori in the G3 Adoration Stakes at Santa Anita May 7 and followed that with a good 2 1/2 length win over Constellation and champion female sprinter Finest City in the G2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos July 8 and another win last time out in the G3 Rancho Bernardo Stakes on this track August 13. She also had three straight wins to start 2017 - the minor Dream of Summer Stakes March 26 and two Allowance Optional Claiming scores - all at Santa Anita. The morning line second choice has seven wins and one second in her last nine starts overall and rides a two-race win streak into this weekend- in very good form ahead of this weekend from gate 12.
Finley'sluckycharm 6-1
Impressive W. Bret Calhoun trained filly has nine wins in 12 career starts with two second-place finishes. She enters off a good win in the G2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland October 7 which followed a second in the G2 Honorable Miss Handicap at Saratoga July 26 and a very nice three-race win streak - the G3 Chicago Handicap June 24, the G3 Winning Colors Stakes May 27 and the minor Roxelana Overnight Stakes April 29 - all at Churchill Downs. Before that was a second in the G1 La Brea Stakes at Santa Anita and three more wins - the best of which came in the minor Dream Supreme Stakes at Churchill Downs in November. Finley'sluckycharm has been terrific in her career so far and tries for a fifth straight stakes win in six starts from post 9.
Paulassilverlining 8-1
Defending third-place finisher in this race - Chad Brown trained mare has placed in 18 of 22 career starts - 11 wins, four seconds and three third place finishes. She posted a very nice 3 3/4 length win in the 2016 G3 Distaff Handicap and has been good since. She arrives on the heels of her worst effort in a while however - a fifth in the G1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga August 26 which followed an impressive four-race win streak - the G2 Honorable Miss Handicap on that track July 26, the G1 Humana Distaff May 6 at Churchill Downs, the G1 Madison Stakes at Keeneland April 8 and the minor Garland of Roses Stakes at Aqueduct December 10. Before that was her decent third in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and another win in the G2 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park October 1. Other wins include the G3 Vagrancy Handicap at Belmont Park last May 21, the G2 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park in October, 2014 and in the minor Ruthless Stakes in January, 2015. Paulassilverlining has been a factor in every race so far in her career and hopes to bounce back off an underwhelming result from gate 2.

Defending fifth-place finisher in this race - Michelle Nevin trained mare has seven wins, six seconds and two third-place finishes in 19 career starts. She enters this week in good form - a win last time out in the G1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga August 26 followed a third behind Paulassilverlining in the G3 Honorable Miss Handicap July 26, a win in the G3 Bed o' Roses Handicap June 9 and another win in the G3 Vagrancy Handicap May 5 - both at Belmont Park. Before that was a pair of runner-up finishes - the G2 Barbara Fritchie Stakes February 18 and in the minor Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes December 31 - both at Laurel Park. She also had another quality runner-up finish in the 2016 G1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga and a win in last year's G3 Bed o' Roses Handicap at Belmont Park. By the Moon has placed in eight of her last nine starts overall and will be looking for her fourth graded stakes win in five starts from post 7.
Finest City 12-1
Defending Champion and Eclipse Award winner as 2016 Champion Female Sprinter has placed in 15 of 19 career starts for trainer Ian Kruljac - five wins, six seconds and four third place finishes. She enters off an OK third in the G2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos July 8 which followed another third in the competitive G1 Beholder Mile at Santa Anita June 3 and consecutive runner-up finishes - the G1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs May 6 and the G1 Santa Margarita Stakes March 18. Before that were wins in gate-to-wire fashion in the G2 Santa Monica Stakes by an easy 3 3/4 lengths at Santa Anita February 21 and in upset fashion on the biggest stage - by three lengths in last year's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Finest City has been very good lately posting two wins, three runner-ups and two third-place finishes in her last seven starts overall but will try to snap a four-race losing streak from gate 4.
Carina Mia 12-1
Chad Brown trained filly has five wins, four seconds and three third-place finishes in 15 career starts. She enters off a decent second in the G2 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park September 24 which followed an OK third, right behind Highway Star in the G1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga August 26, a win in the restricted Shine Again Stakes on that track August 2, a fourth in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes at Belmont Park June 10, an OK third place finish in the G1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs May 6 and a disappointing ninth as second choice in the 2016 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Before that was a decent second in the G1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx last September 24, an OK third in the 2016 G1 Ballerina Stakes, a second behind Songbird in the 2016 G1 Coaching Club American Oaks July 24 and a two-race win streak - the G1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park June 11, 2016 and by six lengths in the G2 Eight Belles Stakes at Churchill Downs last May 6. Carina Mia has been good so far in her career, has 90 or better Beyer Speed Figures in her last five starts and will be after her first graded stakes win in 16 months from the rail.

Has placed in 11 of 12 career starts for trainer Bob Baffert - five wins, five seconds and a third-place finish. She finished third in the G1 Spinaway Stakes in September, 2015 - her second career start and went on to a second in the G2 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park a month later. She has won four of nine starts since - the best of which was the G1 La Brea Stakes at 12-1 odds December 26. The other wins include the minor City of Phoenix Stakes at Turf Paradise November 12, the minor Ruthless Stakes January 17, 2016 and the minor Furlough Stakes in November, 2015. She enters on the heels of four straight runner-up finishes - the G3 Rancho Bernardo Stakes last time out on this track August 13, behind Skye Diamonds in the G2 Great Lady M Stakes at Los Alamitos July 6, in the G1 Madison Stakes at Keeneland April 8 and as odds-on favorite in the G3 Las Flores Stakes at Santa Anita March 5. Constellation has been good the last 21 months (four wins and four seconds in 10 starts) and will try to snap a string of four straight seconds from gate 8.

Lightly raced Rodrigo Ubillo trained filly has eight wins, a second and two third-place finishes in her 13 career starts. She enters off a good win in the G2 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park September 24 which followed a second in the G1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga August 26, an OK third in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stake at Belmont Park June 10 and a nice two race win streak - the G2 Ruffian Stakes at Belmont Park May 13 and the G3 Distaff Stakes at Aqueduct April 9. She also had a two-race win streak to end 2016 - the G3 Go for Wand Handicap at Aqueduct December 3 and in the minor New York Stallion Series Stakes on that track November 13. Highway Star has won five of her last eight starts overall (all stakes) and has placed in five straight graded stakes races ahead of this weekend. She has been a factor every time out and hopes to be at the top again Saturday from gate 10.
Ami's Mesa 20-1
Has nine six career starts for trainer Josie Carroll with six wins and a second-place finish. She enters on an impressive four-race win streak - the G2 Presque Isle Downs Masters last time out September 18, the G3 Seaway Stakes August 26, the G3 Ontario Matron Stakes July 22 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score June 30 - the last three at Woodbine. Before that was an ugly ninth in the minor South Beach Stakes at Gulfstream December 17, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming here November 11 and a fifth in the G3 Sweetest Chant Stakes at Gulfstream in January, 2016. Ami's Mesa has good terrific lately and could be a threat to take down her fifth straight win from the outside gate 14.
Curlin's Approval 20-1
Has seven wins and a second-place finish in her 13 career starts for trainer Happy Alter. She made her graded stakes debut nine starts back and finished an OK fourth in the G2 Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland October 22 and followed that with a respectable second in the G3 Rampart Stakes at Gulfstream December 17. She went on to two straight wins - by a dominant 2 1/2 length win in the G3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes at Gulfstream January 28 and in the G2 Royal Delta Stakes by six lengths on that track February 18. She didn't look great in her next two starts however - a seventh as 4-5 favorite in the G3 Matron Stakes at Churchill Downs May 20 followed a fifth as favorite again in the G2 Inside Information Stakes in March. Last time out was a win in the minor Barely Even Handicap at Gulfstream Park October 1 after a disappointing sixth in the G1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga August 26 and another win - by 4 1/2 lengths in the G2 Princess Rooney Stakes at Gulfstream July 1. Curlin's Approval has won two of her last three but has also failed to place in three of her last five. She tries for her biggest win to date Saturday from post 3.
Princess Karen 20-1
Jeff Bonde trained filly has three wins and a second-place finish in her seven career starts. She arrives off an decent second in the G3 LA Woman Stakes at Santa Anita October 8, a win in the minor Beverly J. Lewis Stakes at Los Alamitos September 9 and off-the board finishes in her previous two stakes starts including a seventh in the G1 Santa Anita Oaks April 8. Princess Karen has been OK in her career and shoots for a first graded stakes score in her fourth try from post 13.
Bar of Gold 30-1
Won her first three career starts - all at Aqueduct for trainer John Kimmel and has been up and down in 21 starts since. She enters off good a slightly disappointing sixth in the G1 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes at Keeneland October 8 which followed a second behind Ami's Mesa in the G2 Presque Isle Downs Masters September 18, a win in the minor Yaddo Stakes at Saratoga August 25 and a third in the minor De La Rose Stakes on that track August 5. Before that was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Belmont Park June 14, a seventh in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes on that track in June, an OK second in the G3 Ruffian May 13 and consecutive fourths in stakes action. He also posted a terrific 18 lengths win with a 117 Beyer Speed Figure in the minor Empire Distaff Handicap October 22 and a respectable third in the 2016 G2 Presque Isle Downs Masters. Bar of Gold now has six wins, six seconds and four third place finishes in 24 career starts and enters in OK form. Shockingly, she looks for her first ever graded stakes score from post 5.
Proper Discretion 30-1
Has hit the board in 15 of 17 career starts for trainer Phil D'Amato - 10 wins, two seconds and three third-place finishes. She makes her graded stakes debut Saturday on a two-race win streak - the minor Diana Stakes last time out September 23 and the minor Scarlet and Gray Handicap September 4 - both at Thistledown. Before that was an eighth in the minor Fasig-Tipton De La Rose Stakes at Saratoga August 5 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Thistledown July 7. She also won the minor First Lady Stakes at Mahoning Valley. Proper Discretion steps up in decent form from gate 6.
