2016 Miami Mile Stakes Preview, Entries & Odds

OffTrackBetting.com - Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida will play host to the Grade 3 Miami Mile Stakes on Saturday, April 30. Horses three years old and upward will take to Gulfstream's turf track and race one mile for the winner's share of the $100,000 purse.

Eight older entries will line up in the Miami Mile - race 7 on Gulfstream's Saturday schedule. Post time is 4:26 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all eight combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.

2016 Miami Mile Stakes Race Preview at Gulfstream Park

Middleburg 2-1 - Christophe Clement pupil has placed in 15 of 17 career starts - five wins, seven seconds and three third place finishes. He was last seen running a disappointing sixth in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes at Belmont Park in October which followed his first graded stake score - the Grade 3 Cliff Hanger Stakes at Monmouth Park August 23 and a pair of good seconds - the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap July 11 and the Grade 2 Monmouth Stakes in June. Middleburg placed in four straight graded stakes starts before last time out and will be after a strong bounce back Saturday. Joe Bravo has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal on the morning line favorite from gate 6.

Hothersal 4-1 - has five wins, seven seconds and two third place finishes in 19 career races. He enters off a fourth in the minor Silks Run Stakes here March 12, an Allowance Optional Claiming score January 28 (both results on this track) an eighth in the Grade 3 Knickerbocker Stakes in October and consecutive runner-up finishes - an Allowance Optional Claiming September 6 and in the Grade 3 Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth Park August 2. Hothersal looks for his first stakes score Saturday, has hit the board in five of seven races on this track and enters in decent form. Tyler Gaffalione has the mount on the second choice from gate 4.

Amigo 9-2 - has 21 career starts for trainer Ronny Werner with just two wins, seven seconds and three third place finishes. He enters off a seventh in the Grade 2 Muniz Memorial Handicap at Fair Grounds March 26, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming here February 28, a fourth in the minor Sunshine Millions Turf and a third in the Grade 3 Tropical Turf at Gulfstream Park West in November. Amigo has been OK and hopes to snap a five race losing streak from post 3. Jose Carabello gets the call on the morning line third choice.

Smokem Kitten 5-1 - lightly raced Michael Maker trained colt has four career starts - all on this track with two wins. He enters off an impressive Allowance Optional Claiming score in track record time for the unusual 7 1/2 furlong distance March 20 after a seventh in a similar race February 20, a year away from the track and a sixth in his only stakes action to date - the Grade 3 Dania Beach Stakes January 3, 2015. Smokem Kitten tries for his first stakes score from gate 2 Saturday with Edgar Prado aboard.

Quiet Force 8-1 - Peter Walder trainee won the Grade 3 Arlington Handicap in July but struggled after that failing to place in his next five starts. He had a tenth in the Grade 1 Arlington Millions and a seventh in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic after his win. Quiet Force has been better lately - two straight Claiming scores on this track in his last two starts. He now has eight wins and a third place finish in 20 career starts and hopes for his second graded stakes score Saturday. Edgard Zayas rides from the outside gate 8.

With Exultation 8-1 - George Weaver trained gelding has six wins, eight seconds and three third place finishes in 25 career starts and enters off a sixth place finish in his graded stakes debut - the Grade 3 Appleton Stakes on this track April 2. Before that was a two race win streak here - a Starter Stakes in February and a Claiming score in January. With Exultation has yet to place in four stakes tries and hopes to change all of that around from post 5 Saturday with Elvis Trujillo in the irons.

Conquest Tsunami 12-1 - won his first four career starts for trainer Mark Casse including the minor Victoria Stakes in June, 2014 and the minor Colin Stakes in July of that year but has been disappointing in his last four starts - failing to place in any. Last time out was a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Tampa Bay in January after a seventh in the minor Bet on Sunshine Stakes at Churchill Downs in November, a fourth in the minor Allied Forces Stakes in September and an eleventh in the 2014 Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot. He has five wins in 10 career starts but has had a difficult time staying on the track. He arrives in less-than-spectacular form and leaves from the rail with Emisael Jaramillo in the saddle.

Aktabantay 20-1 - British bred Thomas Morley trained colt had two wins and three second place finishes in 10 starts at home including a group 3 stakes win and a second in a group 2 stakes but failed to place in his last five including a pair of Group 1 races. He has two North American starts and hasn't fared a whole lot better. Last time out was a seventh in the Grade 3 Appleton Stakes here April 2 after a fast closing fourth in an Allowance at Tampa Bay in February. Aktabantay looks for his first win since August, 2014 and has shown form in the past. Eddie Castro is scheduled to ride.
