2016 Breeders' Cup Turf Entries at Santa Anita Park

Flintshire 5-2 - impressive British bred entry won the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris in 2013 and has been impressive since - a second last time out behind Ectot in the G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park October 1 followed three straight wins- the G1 Sword Dancer Stakes August 27, in the G2 Bowling Green Stakes July 30 and the G1 Manhattan Stakes at Belmont Park June 11. The wins followed a second in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase in December (a race he won in 2014), a second in the Group 1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in France, a win in the 2015 Sword Dancer Stakes in August and a second in his only other North American start - behind the terrific Main Sequence in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Turf. Flintshire now has eight wins, 11 seconds and a third place finish in 23 career starts - as competitive as they come at a huge variety of tracks around the world. He will be out to keep an impressive string of results going from gate 4 Saturday with Javier Castellano aboard the morning line favorite.

Found 3-1 - defending champion in this race - Irish bred Aidan O'Brien trained filly has placed in 19 of 20 career starts - competitive every time out. He enters off a second in the Group 1 QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot October 15, a win in the Group 1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe October 2 and five straight runner-up finishes in Group races in Britain including the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes September 10, the Group 1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks in August, the Group 1 Prince of Wales Stakes June 16 and the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Coronation Cup June 4. He also holds wins in two other Group races in England the past couple of years. Found has been in there with some of Europe's best and has fared very well. Hopes are that he can stay competitive and repeat in this race from post 10. Ryan Moore rides the co-second choice.

Highland Reel 3-1 - has 18 career starts for trainer Aidan O'Brien with six wins, five seconds and a third place finish. He arrives having placed in four of his last five starts overall - a second last time out in the Group 1 Qatar Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe in France October 2 followed a seventh in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes September 10, a second in the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York August 17 and a win in the Group 1 QIPCO King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in July. Ectot 8-1 - British bred Todd Pletcher trainee has placed in 10 of 14 career starts - seven wins, two seconds and a third place finish. He won the Group 2 Qatar Prix Niel in September, 2014 and failed to post victory again before a terrific score last time out over many of her weekend foes in the G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park October 1. Before that win was a close second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Saratoga September 4 and a fourth in the minor Lure Stakes - his North American debut - at Saratoga August 6. He failed to place in three of his last four starts overseas as well. Ectot hadn't been all that impressive before a breakthrough win last time out and will look to build on that effort from post 3. Jose Ortiz has the mount.

Ulysses 12-1 - lightly raced Sir Michael R. Stoute trained colt has two wins and two second place finishes in six career starts. He makes his North American debut off a second in the Group 3 Winter Hill Stakes at Royal Windsor August 27, a good win in the Group 3 Beringice Gordon Stakes at Goodwood July 27 and a twelfth in the G1 Investec Derby at Epsom in June. He has looked good in his last two starts and hopes the momentum carries over to this week. Lanfranco Dettori will be in the saddle Saturday from post 7.

Ashleyluvssugar 15-1 - has 17 career starts for trainer Peter Eurton with eight wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. He enters on a nice two race win streak - the G2 John Henry Turf Championship here October 2 and the G2 Del Mar Handicap August 20. Before that was a good second in the G2 Eddie Read Stakes July 17, an OK third in the minor Crystal Waters Stakes at Santa Anita June 11,10 months away from the track, a respectable second in the 2015 Del Mar Handicap, an uncharacteristic sixth in the G1 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth July 5, 2015 and a nice three race win streak in 2015 - in the G2 Charles Whittingham Stakes May 24, by 2 1/4 lengths in the G2 San Luis Rey Stakes March 21 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in February. Ashleyluvssugar has placed in seven of his last eight starts and looks for his third straight graded stakes score. Gary Stevens has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal from post 5.

Mondialiste 15-1 - globetrotting Irish bred David O'Meara trainee made his North American debut last September and posted a terrific win in the G1 Woodbine Mile and has been up and down since. Last time out was a fourth in the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland October 8 which followed a nice win in the G1 Arlington Millions August 13, a second in the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes in England, an eleventh in the Group 1 Queen Ann Stakes overseas a seventh in a Group 1 race in France, a twelfth in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile in December and a good second behind the terrific Tepin in last year's Breeders' Cup Mile. Before shipping he had 14 career starts with three wins, three second and five third place finishes. His last two starts at home resulted in two wins - both Stakes races in Britain - the Betfred Mobile Strensall Stakes (Eng-III) August 22 and the other at Pontefract July 26. Mondialiste has placed in just two of his last six starts overall (one being the G1 score two back) and hopes to rebound from a fourth place finish when he leaves from gate 6 with Daniel Alexander Tudhope guiding him.

Da Big Hoss 20-1 - defending sixth place finisher in this race has an impressive 12 wins, a second and three third place finishes in 21 career starts for trainer Michael Maker and enters on a terrific four race win streak - the G3 Kentucky Turf Cup last time out September 10, the G3 American St. Leger Stakes at Arlington August 13, the minor $300,000 Belmont Gold Cup Invitational in record time for two miles June 10 and the G2 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland in April. Before that was a disappointing fifth in the G2 Mac Diarmida Stakes at Gulfstream March 5 and another win in the G3 John B Connally Turf Cup at Sam Houston January 30. He has won nine of his last 12 starts overall - as competitive as they come especially lately. Da Big Hoss tries to make it five straight wins from gate 2 Saturday with Florent Geroux guiding him.

Money Multiplier 20-1 - has three wins, six seconds and a third place finish in 14 career starts for trainer Chad Brown. He broke maiden at Belmont Park last May in his fourth career starts and went on to a couple of good runner-up finishes - the G3 Kent Stakes last July and the G3 Saranac Stakes in September. He struggled after that however - a seventh in the G3 Hill Prince Stakes here in October and an eighth in the G1 Hollywood Derby in November. He has been OK in his last six starts however - a fourth last time out in the G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic October 1 followed a second behind Flintshire with a terrific 112 Beyer Speed Figure in the G1 Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga August 27, an Allowance Optional Claiming score August 5 and consecutive runner-up finishes - the G1 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park July 3 and in the G1 Man o' War Stakes at Belmont Park May 14. Money Multiplier has been decent but will still be chasing his first stakes score Saturday. John Velazquez will be in the saddle from post 9.

Twilight Eclipse 30-1 - defending eighth place finisher in this race is still the world record holder at 1 1/2 miles on turf when he won the Grade 2 William McKnight Handicap December 28, 2013 in wire-to-wire fashion by seven lengths. He's placed in 15 of 19 races ahead of this weekend - three straight thirds ahead of this weekend - the G1 Joe Hirsch Classic last time out October 1, behind Flintshire and Money Multiplier in the G1 Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga August 27 and behind Flintshire in the G2 Bowling Green Stakes July 30. Before that was an Allowance score at Belmont Park July 8, a third in the minor Belmont Gold Cup Invitational and three poor results - a sixth in the G3 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland in April, a seventh in the G2 Mac Diarmida Stakes at Gulfstream March 5 and an eighth in November in the Breeders' Cup Turf. His last graded stakes score came in the G1 Man o' War Stakes May 9, 2015. Twilight Eclipse has been OK lately and will be after his first graded stakes score in 18 months (second overall) from gate 8. Joel Rosario has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal.

Texas Ryano 30-1 - has 16 career starts for trainer Carla Gaines with four wins, three seconds and three third place finishes. He made his graded stakes debut in November and finished a disappointing eighth in the G2 Hollywood Turf Cup after a fifth in an Allowance Optional Claiming October 30 and two straight wins - the minor King Pellinore Stakes September 27 and an Allowance Optional Claiming September 5. He has five starts in 2016 - a good second last time out in the G2 John Henry Turf Championship here October 2, a third in the G2 Del Mar Handicap August 20, a seventh in the G2 Eddie Read Stakes, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming June 16 and a sixth in the G2 San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita in January. Texas Ryano has looked OK against lesser company and has been improving ahead of this weekend. Flavien Prat will be in the irons from post 11.

Metaboss 30-1 - won the G3 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate July 14, 2015 and has been just OK in six starts since for trainer Phil D'Amato. Last time out was a fourth in the G1 John Henry Turf Championship here October 2 after a second in the G2 Del Mar Handicap August 20, an Allowance Optional Claiming score July 23, a fourth, a third and a sixth respectively in a trio of Allowance Optional Claiming races earlier this year. Before that was 11 months away from the track and a sixth in the G3 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park in March, 2015. Metaboss now has three wins, two second and two third place finishes in 12 career starts and hopes to channel the form we saw 19 months ago when he won the El Camino. He enters in so-so form from the outside gate 14 with Rafael Bejarano in the irons.

Ralis 30-1 - has 15 career starts for trainer Doug O'Neill with two wins and four second place finishes. He enters off a sixth in the G2 John Henry Turf Championship on this track October 2 after an OK second in the G2 Del Mar Derby September 4, an eighth in the G1 Belmont Derby Invitational at Belmont Park July 9 and consecutive runner-up finishes - the minor Rainbow Stakes June 18 and the minor Snow Chief Stakes May 28 - both at Santa Anita. He wasn't great before that however - a tenth in the G3 Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs May 7 followed a fifth in the Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park in April, a tenth in the G2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park March 19, a fourteenth in last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile and a sixth in the G1 Champagne Stakes October 3 at Belmont Park. He did have a good win in the G1 Hopeful Stakes last September 7 but has struggled in top company since. Ralis has been wildly inconsistent, has looked very good at times in his 14 starts and hopes for his first win in over a year Saturday. Mario Gutierrez has been tabbed to ride from the rail.
