2016 Breeders' Cup Sprint Preview, Entries & Odds

Masochistic 2-1 - one of the best sprinters in 2015 - speedy Ron Ellis trained gelding has placed in 10 of 13 career starts - eight wins and two second place finishes. He enters off a nice win in the G2 Pat O'Brien Stakes at Del Mar August 27 which followed a gate-to-wire Allowance Optional Claiming score by 6 1/4 lengths at Santa Anita July 8 and eight months away from the track. Before the layoff was an uncharacteristic last of fourteen in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (after sustaining an injury in the race), a second in the G1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar last July 26 and a terrific three race win streak in 2015- the G1 Triple Bend Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths with an impressive 110 Beyer Speed Figure June 27, in the G2 Kona Gold Stakes with a 102 Beyer Speed Figure April 11 and a 2 1/4 length Allowance Optional Claiming score February 28. Has placed in six of eight starts ahead of this weekend (five wins) and will leave from post 7 Saturday. Mike Smith will be in the saddle of the morning line favorite.
Lord Nelson 5-2 - Bob Baffert trained colt has seven wins, a second and a third place finish in 13 career starts including wins in the G1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship here October 8, the G1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar July 31 (a race that broke a stakes record for six furlongs), the G1 Triple Bend Stakes at Santa Anita three starts back June 25, an Allowance Optional Claiming with a career best 99 Beyer Speed Figure June 3 of this year, the G2 San Vicente Stakes February 1, 2015 and the minor Speakeasy Stakes by an impressive 6 3/4 lengths October 13, 2014. Lord Nelson enters on a terrific four race win streak - three on this track and should be in the mix again Saturday. Flavien Prat has the mount on the second betting choice from gate 6.

Drefong 7-2 - has posted four wins in five career starts for trainer Bob Baffert including his graded stakes debut last time out - the G1 Kings Bishop Stakes at Saratoga August 27. Before that were three more wins by a combined 18 1/4 lengths - two Allowance Optional Claiming races at Santa Anita and a maiden score at Del Mar in November. Drefong has improved every time out and hopes to carry the momentum from gate 2 Saturday with Martin Garcia guiding this intriguing 7-2 shot.
p>A.P. Indian 4-1 - Arnaud Delacour trained gelding has placed in 15 of 17 career starts - an impressive 11 wins and four runner-up finishes. He enters on a six race win streak - the G2 Ogden Phipps Stakes last time out October 7 at Keeneland, the G1 Forego Stakes at Saratoga August 27, the G1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Stakes July 30, the G3 Belmont Sprint Championship Stakes July 9, the minor Donald LeVine Memorial (for the second year in a row) at Parx and the minor Decathlon Stakes at Monmouth Park in May. Before that were a pair uncharacteristic sixths in stakes races to end his 2015 campaign. A. P. Indian has been on fire and will be after his seventh straight stakes score from post 5. Joe Bravo gets the call.Delta Bluesman 15-1 - Jorge Navarro trained gelding has 10 wins, 10 seconds and seven third place finishes in 45 career starts. He arrives off a win in the minor Hall of Fame Stakes at Parx September 17 after a fourth in the G1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Stakes at Saratoga July 30 and a nice two race win streak - both in gate-to-wire fashion - the G2 Smile Sprint Stakes by an impressive 3 3/4 lengths July 2 at Gulfstream and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Monmouth Park June 11. He was DQ's to fifth after crossing the line first in the Decathlon Stakes as well and now has won three of his last four starts overall ahead of this week - in career best form. Delta Bluesman departs from post 3 Saturday with Emisael Jaramillo in the reins.
Joking 15-1 - Charlton Baker trained gelding has 10 wins, eight seconds and eight third place finishes in 39 career starts. He enters this week in career best form - four straight wins ahead of this weekend. Last time out was in the G1 Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park October 1 after wins in his graded stakes debut - the G2 True North Stakes June 10, the minor Diablo Stakes here May 8 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Aqueduct in April. He has placed in six straight and tries to make it three straight graded stakes wins from gate 4. Manuel Franco has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal.
Noholdingback Bear 15-1 - has five wins, four seconds and a third place finish in 11 career starts for trainer Michael De Paulo. He arrives off a good win in the G3 Gallant Bob Stakes at Parx September 24 which followed an OK third in the G1 King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga August 27 and an OK second in the G3 Bold Venture Stakes at Woodbine July 23. Before that were three straight wins - an Allowance with a terrific 101 Beyer Speed Figure at Woodbine July 1, the minor Tom Ridge Stakes at Presque Isle Downs May 23 and the minor Woodstock Stakes in July. Also this year he's had a second in the minor Texas Glitter Stakes at Gulfstream Park, a fourth in the G2 Swale Stakes and consecutive respectable runner-up finishes - in the G3 Hutcheson Stakes at Gulfstream January 2 and in the minor $100,000 Juvenile Dirt Sprint Stakes at Keeneland October 31. Noholdingback Bear has been competitive every time out and will be looking for a fifth win in seven starts Saturday. Eurico Rosa Da Silva will be in the irons from gate 8.
Limousine Liberal 15-1 - has three wins and five runner-up finishes in 11 career starts for trainer Ben Colebrook. He enters off a second in the G2 Ogden Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland October 7, an uncharacteristic seventh in the G1 Forego Stakes at Saratoga August 27 and consecutive runner-up finishes - the G2 Smile Sprint Stakes at Gulfstream Park August 2 and the G3 Aristides Stakes at Churchill Downs June 4. Before that was a sixth in the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes in May, an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Keeneland in April and an eleventh in last year's Breeders' Cup Sprint. Limousine Liberal has placed in four if his last five starts and will be after his first win since April when he departs from post 9 with Jose Ortiz guiding him.
Mind Your Biscuits 20-1 - Robert Falcone trained colt has placed in nine of 11 career starts - three wins, four seconds and two third place finishes. He enters off a second in the G3 Gallant Bob Stakes at Parx September 24, a fifth in the G1 King's Bishop Stakes August 27 and a nice two race win streak - the G2 Amsterdam Stakes July 30 (his graded stakes debut) and an Allowance race at Belmont Park July 3. Before that was a respectable second in the minor Mike Lee Stakes at Belmont Park May 30, a third in an Allowance May 7 and a maiden score at Aqueduct in April.
