Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes comes our way from Tampa Bay Downs in Tampa, Florida this Saturday, January 31. Three year olds will take to Tampa Bay Downs dirt track and race 1 1/16 miles in search of the winner's share of the $250,000 purse.

2015 Sam F. Davis Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Catalina Red - Chad Stewart trained colt has placed in all five career starts - two wins, a second and two third place finishes. He enters having won two straight minor stakes races on this track - the Pasco Stakes over Grade 3 Hutcheson Stakes runner-up X Y Jet in track record time December 27 and the Inaugural Stakes by an impressive 7 ¼ lengths December 6. Daniel Centeno will be in the saddle hoping to keep the roll going - from the rail.

Ocean Knight - will race for just the second time for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. His only start was a good one - a 4 ½ length maiden score as favorite at Aqueduct December 13. He has posted some decent works including a four-furlong bullet work January 23 ahead of this race. Irad Ortiz will be in charge of this emerging colt from post 11 Saturday.

Sam F. Davis Stakes 2015 | Remaining Contenders

Ami's Flatter - will hit the track for the fourth time for trainer Josie Carroll having recorded a win and a second so far. Last time out was a good second in his stakes debut - behind Bluegrass Singer in the minor Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park January 3 after breaking maiden at first asking at Woodbine in November. Luis Contreras will be in charge of this up-and-coming colt in his two-turn debut from post 3.

My Johnny Be Good - Eoin Harty trainee has placed in all four career starts - two wins, a second and a third place finish. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off an Allowance Optional Claiming score here December 28, a second in an Allowance at Keeneland in October and a maiden score in his second career start - at Arlington in September. Antonio Gallardo has been tabbed to ride from post 9.

Crittenden - will make his stakes debut Saturday for trainer Eoin Harty off consecutive wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming December 26 and a maiden score December 6 - both results on this track. He started his career with an eighth and a fifth respectively in a pair of MSW races. Fernando De La Cruz has been tabbed with keeping the upward trend going - from gate 4.

Royal Son - Todd Pletcher trainee has looked good in his three race career - a win and two second place finishes. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off a maiden score at Gulfstream January 8 and a pair of seconds in similar races to start his career - one of those seconds came to El Kabeir at Saratoga. Royal Son looks ready for his step up in competition as he leaves from post 2 with the legendary John Velazquez guiding him.

Brother Bobo - Jason Servis trained colt has placed in two of three career starts - the lone blemish coming last time out with a sixth in the minor Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park January 3. Before that were a second in the minor Buffalo Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park West November 29 and a maiden score at first asking - at Gulfstream Park West in October. He makes his graded stakes debut in so-so form with Gabriel Saez guiding him from post 7.

G Five - Todd Pletcher trained colt has five career starts with two wins and two third place finishes. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream January 4, a third in a Starter Optional Claiming November 21 and consecutive wins - an Allowance Optional Claiming in October and a Maiden Claiming in September. He has placed in his last four starts and hopes that his success translates to stakes company. He departs from gate 8 with Rajiv Maragh in the reins.

Bandages - Chad Stewart trained colt was second last time out - December 27 after breaking maiden in his first career start December 6 - both results on this track. He takes a huge step up in competition Saturday from post 6 with Ronald Dale Allen in the irons.

Bears Personality - Reade Baker trained colt has five career starts with two wins and a second place finish. He steps into stakes company for the first time riding a two race win streak - an Allowance last time out December 6 and a maiden score in his fourth career start - both results at Woodbine. Edgar Prado will be in the saddle in Bears Personality's big step up in competition from the fat outside post.

Divining Rod - races for the third time for trainer Arnaud Delacour and is coming off a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming here December 26 after breaking maiden at first asking - at Laurel Park November 21. He makes his stakes debut with Luis Garcia in the saddle from post 5.

Coomer - will hit the track for the third time for trainer Michael Maker having posted a win last time out in a Maiden Claiming at Churchill Downs November 26 and a fifth in a similar race at Keeneland in October. He steps up from post 10 with Julien Leparoux in the saddle.
