La Cañada Stakes 2015 at Santa Anita Park
Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita Race Track in beautiful Arcadia, California will be the scene of the Grade 2 La Cañada Stakes on Saturday, January 17. Fillies and mares four years old and upward will be featured when they take to Santa Anita's dirt track and go 1 1/16 miles for a purse of $200,000.
A field of eight four year old females will take part in the La Cañada - race 8 on Santa Anita's Saturday card. Post time is 4:00 PM. Here is a peek into the past performances of all eight entries for this Grade 2 stakes.

Lexie Lou - accomplished five time stakes winner makes her first start on dirt and enters off a respectable second behind California Chrome in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby November 29 after one of her wins - in the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes at Santa Anita October 25, a very disappointing tenth as 3-2 choice in the Grade 2 Canadian Derby (her graded stakes debut) and a terrific three race win streak - the minor Wonder Where Stakes August 10, the prestigious Queen's Plate July 6 against the boys and a terrific 4 1/2 length win in the Woodbine Oaks June 15 for trainer Mark Casse. She now has seven wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 16 career starts. Corey Nakatani will get the call aboard Cañada's likely Horse of the Year winner - from post 3 Saturday.
Sam's Sister - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly has been very impressive in her five race career with four wins. Last time out was a huge step up into stakes company - a nice win in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes at 12-1 odds on this track December 26. Before that was a disappointing eighth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Del Mar and three straight wins to start her career - one at this distance on this track. She will be a confident horse after a terrific score last time out and she has won both career starts on this course. Elvis Trujillo rides from post 2 in Sam's Sister's two-turn debut.

Jojo Warrior - Bob Baffert trained filly has three wins, a second and two third place finishes in eight career starts and enters off a disappointing eighth at 7-2 odds in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes here December 26 which followed a solid third behind Untapable after setting the pace in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx September 20 and a two race win streak - the Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar August 31 and the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks by 5 1/4 lengths at Santa Anita June 21. This after a third as 7-5 favorite in the listed Miss Preakness Stakes at Pimlico May 16. She had two wins and two thirds between May and September of last year but will look to rebound from a career worst effort. Martin Garcia is tasked with avenging that eighth as the 120 pound highweight from post 5 Saturday.
Thegirlinthatsong - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly had 11 starts last year with two wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. She posted two wins early in the year - an Allowance in March and the minor Texas Stallion S. Got Koto Stakes in May and has placed in four if six starts since. Last time out was a second in the minor Zia Park Oaks which followed a fifth in the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes here in October, a second in the minor Remington Park Oaks September 28 and a good third in the Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar August 31. She has been very competitive the last six months and hopes to be again Saturday. Rafael Bejarano will be in the saddle from gate 4.

Fleet of Gold - Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly enters having posted runner-up finishes in his last three starts - all Allowance Optional Claiming races at three different tracks. His only graded stakes race came in June - a fifth in the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks. She has finished second in five of six races since. Fleet of Gold looks for his first win in over a year (11 starts) in her second foray into graded stakes company - from the rail with Alex Solis in the saddle.
Une Cherise - Graham Motion trained filly has five career starts with two wins and two second place finishes. She enters off a career worst performance - a fifth in her stakes debut - the minor Willa On the Move Stakes at Laurel Park December 6. This followed an Allowance score in November, a second in a similar race in October and a maiden score in her second career start in August. Joe Talamo will be in charge in her graded stakes debut from post 6.
Colonel Joan - Eoin Harty trained filly finished a very good third in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile fillies but had an up-and-down 2014. She enters off a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming November 27 and a win in a similar race November 9 - both results at Del Mar. Those results followed a sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming here, a seventh in the minor Hatoof Stakes at Arlington and a sixth in the Grade 3 Arlington Oaks in July. Colonel Joan has 11 career starts with two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and enters in so-so form. Gary Stevens has the mount from the outside post.
Ramona's Wildcat - Doug O'Neill trained filly made her graded stakes debut December 26 and finished an OK fourth in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes on this track after an ugly sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Del Mar November 21, a second in the minor Beverly J. Lewis Stakes at Los Alamitos in September, a sixth in the minor Azalea Stakes in February and two wins in her first two career starts - one being the minor El Paso Times Handicap. She has been inconsistent lately and hopes Kent Desormeaux can cure that from post 7.
