Hendrie Stakes 2014 Contenders & Odds
Las Vegas, NV - Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario will be the scene of the Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes on Saturday, May 24. Fillies and mares four years old and upward as they chase the winner's share of the $150,000 over 6.5 furlongs on Woodbine's All Weather Track.

Purely Hot - had a five race win streak to start last year and made her stakes debut finishing a very good second ahead of Judy the Beauty in the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters September 9. She followed that with a pair of fourths - in the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland October 15 and in the Bessarabian Stakes here December 1. Purely Hot ended her 2013 campaign with a disappointing tenth in the minor Holiday Inaugural Stakes and has two starts this year - a third in a Starter Allowance at Keeneland April 9 and a terrific win last time out - her first ever stakes victory by 3 1/2 lengths in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes on this track April 26. Chantal Sutherland-Kruse will have the mount once more on the 121-pound highweight and they break from post 6.
Part the Seas - had seven starts last year with three wins and two third place finishes. Last time out was a great win in the Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes at 14-1 odds ahead of Purely Hot here December 1 after third in the minor River Memories Stakes October 19 here and a win on this track in the minor Avowl Stakes September 1. Her other graded stakes race of 2013 resulted in a sixth in the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes here in May. Part the Seas has 16 career starts with five wins, two seconds and three third place finishes. She makes her 2014 debut Saturday looking to keep the roll going with Justin Stein in the saddle from post 5.

Spring in the Air - Mark Casse trainee and Canada's champion two-year-old filly in 2012 has 13 career starts with three wins, six seconds and a third place finish. She made her first start since September on April 26 and finished second behind Purely Hot in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes on this track. She closed out 2013 with a third in the minor La Lorgnette Stakes here after a second in the minor Wonder Where Stakes against the boys on this track in August and an OK fourth in the Queen's Plate also on this track. Before that she was a decent second in the Woodbine Oaks to Nipissing after a win in the minor Fury Stakes on this track May 4. Spring in the Air broke onto the scene with a second in the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes in September, 2012 and won the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades in October, 2012 and went on to an OK fifth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies that year. She also raced to a ninth last April in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes. She has placed in five of her last six starts but hopes to claim victory for the first time since last May this weekend. Spring in the Air drew post 4 and will have Patrick Husbands back aboard.
Mekong Delta - has 20 career starts - all at Woodbine and enters this weekend having won two of her last five starts - both Allowance races and having placed in her last two graded stakes races - a very good second behind Part the Seas in the Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes December 1 and a good third last time out behind Purely Hot and Spring in the Air in the Grade 3 Whimsical April 26. Sandwiched in there is a sixth in her stakes debut - the Grade 2 Seaway Stakes August 31. Mekong Delta has three wins, five seconds and three third place finishes and looks to keep up the momentum after a win, a second and a third in her last three starts. My Option - has 11 career starts for trainer Chris Block with four wins, two seconds and four third place finishes. She registered four wins and two second place finishes in her first six starts including an impressive win in the Grade 3 Arlington Oaks in July but hasn't tasted victory since. She did have a string of three third place finishes toward the end of 2013 including the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes and Grade 2 Raven Run Stakes and ended her 2013 campaign with a fourth in the Grade 2 Falls City Handicap at Churchill Downs in November. My Option's only start this year resulted in a third in the restricted Third Chance Handicap at Hawthorne April 19. She makes her first start at Woodbine Saturday from the outside post with Jesse Campbell aboard.
Unhedged - Mark Casse pupil started her career with three straight wins including the minor Presque Isle Debutante Stakes in September, 2012 and went on to a sixth in her only graded stakes action - the Grade 3 Delta Downs Princess Stakes in November, 2012. She has placed in just two of five starts since - both Allowance Optional Claiming races with the last coming last time out April 10 at Keeneland. Unhedged has nine career starts with three wins and two second place finishes and looks for her first win since 2012 Saturday.
Aunt Els - makes her graded stakes debut Saturday for trainer Nicholas Gonzalez but she does have one stakes score among her four victories in seven career starts - the minor Ontario Lassie Stakes here in December, 2012. She has just three starts since - a pair of sevenths was followed by an Allowance Optional Claiming score here April 20- after nearly a year away from the track. Aunt Els starts from gate 7 with David Moran in the saddle.
Kitty Wine - Eddie Keneally trained mare makes her stakes debut Saturday having posted two wins, four seconds and a third place finish in 11 career starts. She is coming off an Allowance score at Keeneland April 25 after failing to place in her two previous starts. Emma-Jayne Wilson gets the call from post 2.
