Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Canadian Derby comes our way this Saturday, August 16 from Northlands Park in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. A purse of $200,000 will be on the line for three year olds willing to go 1 3/8 miles on Northlands Park's main track.

2014 Canadian Derby Race Favorite Entries

The Spinmeister - has seven career starts for trainer Rob Chabot with four wins and a third place finish -two wins in four starts this year. Last time out was a nice win in the minor Count Lathum Handicap on this track July 19 after an unflattering seventh in the minor Ky Alta Handicap here June 21 and a win in the minor Western Canada Handicap also on this track in May. The Spinmeister has been a bit hit-or-miss this year but off a nice win should be a factor Saturday. Jorge Espitia gets the call aboard the slight 3-1 morning line favorite from gate 9.

Off the Top - multiple stakes placed Robert Anderson trained gelding has nine career starts with one win, three seconds and two third place finishes and enters off three consecutive runner-up finishes. Last time out was in the minor British Columbia Cup Stellar's Jay Handicap at Hastings August 4 after his second in the minor Chris Loseth Handicap in July and a second in an Allowance in June. Off the Top looks for his first win in a year and leaves from the outside post with Frank Perez Fuentes riding the 7-2 second choice.

Edison - has five career starts with three wins and a third place finish and enters this weekend on a two race win streak. Last time out was his stakes debut - a win in the minor Harry Jeffrey Stakes at Assiniboia July 16 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Canterbury Park June 21 and a third in an Allowance at Belmont Park in may. He has been very competitive every time out - more is expected Saturday when Edison starts from gate 8 with Rico Walcott in the irons of the 4-1 third betting choice.

Consecrate - Greg Tracy trained filly enters off a nice win in the minor Northlands Oaks July 18 and a third in the R.K. Smith Handicap in this track as well June 20. She has nine career starts with two wins, a second and two third place finishes and has looked good in her only two starts in Canada. She leaves from the rails with Scott Williams aboard looking to make a little noise against the boys at 9-2 odds.

Go Max - has placed in six straight races ahead of this weekend - three second place finishes including minor stakes races here two and three back - the Ky Alta Handicap June 21 and the Western Canada Handicap in May .He also has three third place finishes including last time out in the minor Count Lathum Stakes - all results on this track. Go Max races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday having been in every race the last year. Quincy Welch will be aboard as Go Max looks for his first win since his debut in July, 2013 from post 5 at 8-1 odds.

He won two straight Allowance races in June and followed that with a fourth in the minor Chris Loseth Handicap July 1 and a second in an Allowance August 3. Remembertobreathe races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday with Ryan Pacheco in the irons from gate 4 at 8-1 odds.

Private Money Game - started his career at Turf Paradise with mixed results then shipped North to Northlands Park where he has six starts with a win, two seconds and two third place finishes. He is coming off an Allowance Optional Claiming score July 30 after consecutive seconds - the minor Count Lathum Handicap July 19 and an Allowance Optional Claiming July 4. He had three starts in July and place in all - it's safe to say Private Money Game is in good form. He is the most experienced of all the entries - 18 starts and has four wins, five seconds and three third place finishes and lines up at 12-1 odds in gate 6 with Damario Bynoe guiding him.

Lintlaw - finished fourth in the Canadian Juvenile Stakes on this track in October and has posted some good results since - an Allowance score last time out followed a second in an Allowance in June and another second in a similar race four back. Lintlaw has 10 career starts with two wins, three seconds and a third place finish and has placed in three of four starts this year. Ismael Eluid Mosqueira has the mount from post 7 at 15-1 on the morning line.

Wilko Run - has raced all over North America winning two of 10 career starts with two seconds and three third place finishes. He is coming off a fourth in the minor Manitoba Derby August 4 after a third in an Allowance at Mountaineer and a win in a similar race at Charles Town in April. Wilko Run's best career result came in a Group 2 race in Puerto Rico - the Clasico Aangel T. Cordero Jr in November at Camarero. He has placed in two of his last three starts and will be looking for his first graded stakes score. Jevian Toledo gets the call aboard the 20-1 shot from post 3.

Shootitinthebush - has 12 career starts with six wins and two second place finishes and enters having won three straight races and five of his last six. Last time out was a win in the minor Triple K Oilfield Services Stakes at Grand Prairie July 20 after two Allowance scores at Lethbridge in June. He is the hottest entry in the field and could be at or near the top Saturday. Shootitinthebush leaves from post 10 with Trevor Simpson aboard at an intriguing 20-1 on the morning line.

Awesome Nugget - has 10 career starts - all at Northlands Park with a win, three seconds and two third place finishes. He enters of a fifth in the minor Counts Lathum Stakes July 19 after a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming July 4 and a second in a Claiming in June. He looks to bounce back in just his second starts start as Desmond Bryan rides from post 2 as the longest shot in the field - 30-1 odds.
