Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity, formerly the Hollywood CashCall Futurity comes our way from Los Alamitos Race Course in Los Alamitos, California this Saturday, December 20 - a race that was moved to this track after the closing of Hollywood Park. Some of the best two year olds in the land will be after the winner's share of the $500,000 purse and the 10 qualifying points toward next year's Kentucky Derby when they go 1 1/16 miles on Los Alamitos dirt track.

A field of just five juveniles have been confirmed for the Los Alamitos Futurity - race 8 on Los Alamitos Saturday card. Post time is 7:00 PM ET. Here is a brief look into the past performances of all five entries for this Grade 1 stakes - the only graded stakes in the United States this weekend.

2014 Los Alamitos Futurity Race Favorite Entries

Dortmund - early favorite for next year's Kentucky Derby will try to remain perfect in his career for trainer Bob Baffert - two career starts so far and two wins. He makes his stakes debut Saturday off an Allowance Optional Claiming score by 7 3/4 lengths on Stars of Tomorrow 2 Day at Churchill Downs November 29 and a 4 3/4 length maiden score in his debut - at Santa Anita November 2. He leaves from post 3 Saturday with Martin Garcia in the saddle in Dortmund's first try around two turns.

Mr. Z - has seven career starts for trainer D. Wayne Lukas including six graded stakes already - four runner-up finishes in those six races. Last time out was a decent second by a nose to undefeated Ocho Ocho Ocho in the $1 million Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot November 22 after an OK fifth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, a good second in the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity October 4, a disappointing fifth as 6-5 favorite in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes September 6 and a pair of good seconds - the Grade 2 Saratoga Special August 10 and the Grade 3 Sanford Stakes in July. He is by far the most experienced entry against top fields and is likely to challenge for top spot. Mr. Z will have Mike Smith guiding him from post 4 as he looks for his first stakes score and looks to make his trainer the only winner of the Grade 1 Starlet and Futurity in the same year.

Los Alamitos Futurity 2014 | Remaining Contenders

No Problem - races for the fourth time for trainer Michael McCarthy off a terrific win at 17-1 odds last time out in the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes at Del Mar November 15 which followed a maiden Claiming score at Santa Anita October 26 and an eighth in a MSW in his debut on that same track September 27. He enters with some serious momentum but stretches out in this one in his first try around two turns. He will have Victor Espinoza aboard from post 2.
