El Camino Real Derby 2014 Contenders & Odds
Las Vegas, NV - Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley California will play host to the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby this Saturday, February 15. Some of the best three years olds in the land will take to Golden Gates Fields poly track track and race 1 1/8 miles for the winner's share of the $200,000 purse and the 10 qualification points toward the Kentucky Derby in May.

Tamarando - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt had three MSW starts to start his career and finally broke maiden at Del Mar August 18 after a second in his second start and a fourth in his debut. He went on to win two of four starts - the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity at 7-1 odds over Dance with Fate September 4 and the 1 1/16 mile, $100,000 Real Quite Stakes by 3 1/4 lengths over Electric Eddie and Karma King November 23. He also had a pair of thirds sandwiched in there - the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita in September in his first try around two turns and the minor Golden State Juvenile. Last time out was an OK second in the minor California Cup Derby behind the terrific California Chrome at Santa Anita January 25 after a respectable third in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park December 14. Hall of Fame rider Russell Baze gets the call from gate 4 Saturday.
Enterprising - Tom Proctor trained colt has four career starts with two wins and a second place finish. Last time out was a good second in the minor California Derby here January 18 after two straight wins including the minor Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita December 28. He races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday but enters in decent form. Legendary Gary Stevens will be in the saddle from post 5.

Dance With Fate - Debuted July 14 at Hollywood Park and finished an ugly eighth in a MSW but bounced back with a win in a MSW on this track August 11. He had a good second behind Bond Holder in the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes September 28 after a troubled second behind Tamarando in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity September 4 and went on to a disappointing eighth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Last time out he bounced back with an Allowance Optional Claiming score by 1 3/4 lengths at Santa Anita January 24. Dance With Fate is an intriguing entry for the El Camino Real and will line up in the far outside post with Aaron Gryder aboard.

Infosec - is coming off a third in the minor California Derby here January 18 in his fourth career start for trainer Frank Lucarelli after a Starter Allowance score on this track December 15 and breaking maiden at Hollywood Park November 15. A third last time out was a good result - hopes are that Infosec can build off that Saturday.
Puppy Manners - Jerry Hollendorfer trained colt will race for the ninth time Saturday and is coming off an OK fourth in his stakes debut - the minor California Derby here January 18. This after two straight wins on this track - an Allowance Optional Claiming December 29 and a MSW December 7.
I'll Wrap It Up - Doug O'Neill trained colt raced in stakes company for the first time January 11 and finished an OK fourth in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes at Santa Anita and followed that with a fourth last time out in an Allowance Optional Claiming on that same track January 24. He finally broke maiden at Hollywood Park December 7 after a second and a third respectively in similar races this winter. I'll Wrap It Up has been close to the money every time out and may act as an interesting sleeper this week.
Craftsman - Irish bred colt and Group 3 winner at home will make his second start on North American soil after a fifth in the minor Eddie Logan Stakes behind Enterprising at Santa Anita December 28. He had two wins, a second and a third place finish in four starts at home and hopes that his success at home will finally translate to North America.
Icy Ride - Bob Baffert trained colt has four career starts and has yet to place. He enters having finished fourth in three consecutive MSW races at Santa Anita after a fifth in a similar race in his debut November 24 at Hollywood Park.
