Beaugay Stakes 2014 at Belmont Park

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes is on tap for this Saturday, May 3 from Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Fillies and mares three years old and upward will take center stage on Belmont Park's turf track as they chase their share of the $150,000 purse over 1 1/16 miles.

A field of 10 older females will line up in the Beaugay - race 8 on Belmont Park's Saturday card. Post time is 4:20 PM. Let's take a peek into the past performances of all 10 entries for this Grade 3 stakes.

2014 Beaugay Stakes Race Favorites

Waterway Run - Chad Brown trained filly raced to a sixth in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf after winning three of her first four career starts. She returned to Europe after that and had some unflattering results before returning to North America and posting two second place finishes this year - the best coming last time out in the Grade 3 Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs March 8. She sits at 3-1 on the morning line and will have Jose Lezcano in the saddle from post 7.

Orion Moon - French bred Christophe Clement pupil won two straight last summer including an Allowance on this track in June and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Saratoga in July. She has just two starts since - a fifth in the minor Speed Boat Stakes in September and a second behind Coffee Clique in an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out at Gulfstream March 26. Junior Alvarado rides from gate 4 at 7-2 odds.

Byrama - was decent in 2012 with three wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 10 starts. She had nine starts in 2013 - a good second in last year's Madison Stakes April 13, an OK third in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes, another third as favorite in the minor Wishing Well Stakes February 10 and a disappointing fourth in the competitive Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes January 6. She ended her 2013 campaign in disappointing fashion - a sixth in the Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes in October after her worst performance in a while - a seventh in the competitive Grade 1 Pacific Classic in August and a pair of decent thirds in graded stakes action - in the Grade 2 A Gleam July 13 and the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes here August 3. She also had an impressive win by 3 1/2 lengths in the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap at 6-1 odds June 15. Byrama has two starts this year - a second in the listed Ten Palms Stakes at Gulfstream Park January 23 and a disappointing seventh last time out in the Madison Stakes April 12. She will have Christopher DeCarlo in the reins from gate 2 at 4-1 odds.

Watsdachances - Chad Brown trained Irish bred filly started her career in Europe but it wasn't until she hit North American soil that she emerged a contender. Watsdachances won her first two starts in America - the P.G. Johnson Stakes in her debut and the Grade 3 Miss Grillo at Belmont Park October 8 and then followed that with a very good second behind Flotilla in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in November. Since the Breeders' Cup she was fourth in the Grade 3 Appalachian Stakes at Keeneland April 18, an OK third in the Grade 3 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park May 27,a second in the Grade 2 Lake George July 24, a second again to Caroline Thomas in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes, fourth in the Grade 1 Garden City and a win last time out in the listed Summer Secretary Stakes at Aqueduct November 9. She hit the track for the first time in nearly six months Saturday with Kendrick Carmouche aboard from the rail at 5-1 odds.

Assateague - Michael Matz trainee had a two race win streak before a fourth in the Grade 3 Noble Damsel Stakes at Belmont Park September 14 - the last coming in the minor De La Rose Stakes over Ruthenia at Saratoga August 3. She had two starts in October - a fifth in the Grade 3 Athenia and a second in the minor Finney Stakes - both on this track and hasn't been seen since. Assateague has four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 15 career starts and lines up in post 3 with Eddie Castro aboard.

Irish Mission - Canada's top 3-year-old filly in 2012 hasn't looked great since but a move to the barn of Christophe Clement may provide a spark. Last time out was a seventh in the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine in October after an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer, a fifth in the Grade 2 Sky Classic and an Allowance score here July 24. She had some success early last year - a third in the Grade 3 Orchid at Gulfstream and a second in the Grade 2 Nassau on this track against the boys and she did win the Breeders' Stakes in Canada last year among her three victories in 2012 - so we know that she can run with the best. Alex Solis gets the call from post 9 as she is sent off at 8-1 odds.

Scampering - Shug McGaughey trained mare races in graded stakes company for just the second time Saturday - the first resulted in a seventh in the Grade 3 Bewitch Stakes at Keeneland last April. She enters having finished third in his last two starts - last time out was an Allowance at Keeneland April 13 after the minor Glens Falls Stakes at Saratoga back in September. She has 11 career starts with three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes and goes off at 10-1 odds from the outside post.

English Class - has 15 career starts for trainer Brian Lynch with three wins, two seconds and six third place finishes. Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream March 22 after a pair of thirds in similar races before that. She did finish second in the 2012 Grade 3 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes but has failed to place in two graded stakes starts since. English Class line up in post 6 with Manuel Franco in the saddle.

Natalie Victoria - Main Track Only entry has three wins and a second place finish in her last four starts - all Allowance races at Aqueduct. She has just one graded stakes starts among 31 career starts - a seventh in the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap at Aqueduct in March, 2013. Despite being MTO Natalie Victoria is 8-5 on the morning line - she will start form gate 5.

Sunny Desert - Another Main Track Only entry has not finished worse than third in her last 12 starts - eight wins including numerous minor stakes scores. She last raced in graded stakes company in March, 2013 and finished an OK third in the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap. Sunny Desert has eight wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 15 career starts and would go off at 2-1 odds if she races.
