King's Bishop Stakes 2013 Contenders at Saratoga Race Course

Las Vegas, NV - Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York will be the scene of a trio of Grade 1 races on Travers Day at the New York state track. The Grade 1 Foxwoods King's Bishop Stakes is just one of those races - a seven furlong dash for three year olds that has a $500,000 purse.

A full field of 14 three year olds has been confirmed for the King's Bishop - race 11 on Saratoga's Saturday schedule. Post time is 5:10 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all 14 combatants for this Grade 1 stakes.

2013 King's Bishop Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Forty Tales - Todd Pletcher pupil started two-for-two in his career including an Allowance score January 5 at Parx and a MSW score at Aqueduct November 24. He was a disappointing fifth in the Grade 3 Swale Stakes at Gulfstream March 2 after a good second in the Grade 2 Hutcheson Stakes as 9-5 favorite February 2 but has posted three terrific wins in his last three starts - in the Grade 3 Derby Trial by a neck over Capo Bastone April 27, the Grade 2 Woody Stephens over Declan's Warrior by three quarters of a length June 8 at Belmont Park and last time out in the Grade 2 Amsterdam on this track July 28. He has won five of seven career starts (three straight graded stakes starts) and enters as one of the hottest entries in the field. He has won at four different distances, is the 5-2 favorite and departs from post 2 with regular rider Joel Rosario in the saddle Saturday.

Declan's Warrior - Nicholas Zito pupil has seven career stars with four wins and two seconds. He entered the Woody Stephens two back on a three race win streak - in the minor Gygistar Stakes over Tenango May 22 after an impressive win in the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes over Clearly Now at Aqueduct April 6, and in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream March 6. He finished a good second to Forty Tales in the Woody Stephens and followed that with his worst career performance - a fifth in the Grade 2 Amsterdam here July 28. He will have John Velazquez guiding his from post 8 and will be looking to bounce back. He goes off as the 5-2 second choice.

Let Em Shine - made his graded stakes debut last time out for trainer Adam Kitchingman and finished a respectable fourth in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes at Belmont Park June 8 after four career starts and three straight wins - the last being the minor Came Home Stakes at Hollywood Park May 11. He leaves from post 10 with Mike Smith in the saddle. He has drawn post 7 for Saturday's race, is expected to set the pace and is listed as the 6-1 third choice.

Mentor Cane - has four career starts for trainer Jon Sherreffs and one win - that coming in his first start of 2013 - a MSW by five lengths at Belmont Park July 6. Last time out was an OK fourth in his stakes debut - in the Grade 2 Amsterdam here July 28 after setting the pace and tiring. His other results were a third in a MSW back in December and a second in a similar race December 8 in his debut at Hollywood Park. He is currently the 8-1 fourth choice on the morning line.

Majestic Hussar - won his career debut here by an impressive 6 1/4 lengths on August 11 but followed that with a disappointing seventh in the Grade 2 Three Chimneys Hopeful at Saratoga in September. His next two starts were Allowance Optional Claiming races resulting in a second December 15 and a win January 19. Last time out was a win in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track August 4 after a 5 1/2 month layoff and a fourth in the Fountain of Youth Stakes here February 23. He departs from post 5 as the 10-1 fifth choice for the King's Bishop.

Overanalyze - Todd Pletcher colt has a trio of impressive wins on his résumé - the Grade 2 Futurity Stakes at Belmont Park September 30,the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct November 24 and the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park April 13. He also had an OK third as 9-5 favorite in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes October 28 and an ugly fifth in the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct March 2. He had a disappointing seventh in the Belmont Stakes to follow an equally disappointing eleventh in the Kentucky Derby but last time out he looked back to decent form - a third in the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby August 3. He is 12-1 on the morning line, he returns to a more comfortable distance Saturday and will have Javier Castellano aboard from post 9.

Salutos Amigos - raced in stakes company for the first time March 9 and finished a somewhat disappointing fifth in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita after three MSW races produced a win by 3 3/4 lengths, a fourth and a second respectively. He followed that with another off-the-board finish - a fourth in the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct April 6 and a ninth in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens at Belmont Park June 8. Last time out was his best result since February - a third in the Grade 2 Amsterdam on this track July 28. He was highly touted in 2012 but has failed to live up to the hype so far. He breaks from the rail at 12-1 odds.

Capo Bastone - Todd Pletcher colt was a distant ninth in the Grade 3 Spiral Stakes March 23 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream February 16 and a respectable third behind Shanghai Bobby in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in November. He bounced back from his ugly ninth with a nice second in the Grade 3 Derby Trial Stakes behind Forty Tales April 27 at Churchill Downs but most recently slipped back to earth with a seventh in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens at Belmont June 8. He has two wins, a second and two thirds in eight career starts. He sits at 15-1 odds on the morning line and will line up in post 3.

Bad Hombre - John Kimmel trained colt has three wins and two seconds in his last five starts - they are the only times he has placed in his 10 career races. Last time out was a respectable second in the minor Curlin Stakes here July 26 to follow an Allowance score at Belmont Park July 6. He broke maiden in his seventh career start - May 5 at Belmont Park. After starting off slowly, Bad Hombre has certainly picked his career off the mat and is in the best form of his career at present. Bad Hombre has been listed at 15-1 odds.

Integrity - Chad Brown trained colt races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday but does have one minor stakes start under his belt - a sixth in the Fit to Fight Stakes in April at Aqueduct. Last time out was a sixth in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track after a win in a similar race at Belmont Park in June. He has two wins, a second and a third place finish in six career starts. He departs from post 11 at 15-1 odds.

No Distinction - Randy Morse trained colt has five career starts with three wins and a second place finish - the second coming last time out in the minor Quick Call Stakes to Central Banker on this track July 25. Before that was three straight wins including two Allowance scores and a MSW win in April.

Central Banker - has six career starts with three wins, a second and a third place finish. Last time out was a nice win in the minor Quick Call Stakes here July 25 after eight months away, a fifth in the Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot and an impressive Allowance Optional Claiming score at Churchill Downs October 28. He also owns a good second in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Stakes September 15. He sits at 20-1 odds on the morning line.

Slan Abhaile - Dale Romans trained colt races in stakes company for the first time Saturday with a record of two wins, two seconds and a third place finish in six career starts. Last time out was an Allowance score on this track - his first win since a MSW in his debut. Two back was his worst career effort - a seventh in an Allowance Optional Claiming July 3. He is the co-second longest shot in the field at 20-1 odds and leaves from post 4.

Miraculousmo - Dale Romans pupil has just two career starts - a MSW score last time out here July 20 after a fourth in a similar race in his debut May 11. he is the longest shot in the field at 30-1 odds.
