Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland Race Course
Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes takes place this Saturday, April 13 at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky - site of three Grade 1 stakes on that day. Fillies and mares four years old and upward will take center stage as they go 1 1/16 miles on Keeneland's turf track chasing the winner's portion of the $300,000 purse.
The Jenny Wiley has attracted a strong field of nine older horses for race 9 on Keeneland's stacked Saturday schedule - six stakes winners including two Grade 1 stakes victors. Post time is 5:05 PM - directly before the main event - the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. Here is a glance into the past performances of all nine combatants for this Grade 1 stakes.
2013 Jenny Wiley Stakes Race Favorites
Daisy Devine - had a three race win streak going this winter including the Grade 3 Cardinal Handicap at Churchill Downs and a pair of minor stakes races at Fair Grounds. Last time out was a second by a head in the minor Bayou Handicap at Fair Grounds February 23. She won this race last year in impressive fashion and has won seven of her last 10 starts overall with two seconds over that span. Daisy Devine will be looking for her eighth turf score Saturday and enters as the hottest entry in the field.
Better Lucky - won the Grade 1 Matriarch last time out to conclude her 2012 campaign. Earlier in 2012 she finished fifth in the Grade 2 Lake Placid to follow a second to Centre Court in the Grade 2 Lake George and a win in the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park in May. She was an OK third two back in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup at Keeneland behind Dayatthespa October 13. She has been out of action since November but that score in the Matriarch certainly opened a few eyes.
Jenny Wiley Stakes 2013 | Remaining Field Entries
Centre Court - enters the Jenny Wiley on a two race win streak - the Grade 2 Honey Fox last time out at Gulfstream March 16 and the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs four months earlier. Before that was a pair of good seconds - the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup ahead of Better Lucky in October and the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes in August. She had three straight wins including the Grade 2 Lake George, the Grade 3 Regret Stakes at Churchill Downs before that and a Maiden Special Weight in the summer as well. Centre Court has five wins and four seconds in her last nine starts - impressive indeed.
Samitar - Irish filly Samitar finished second last time out in the Grade 2 Honey Fox behind Centre Court March 16 after she made her third start on North American soil with an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup in October. She finished a good third in her American debut at the Grade 2 Lake George Stakes behind Center Court at Saratoga on July 25 and followed that with an impressive score in the Grade 1 Garden City Stakes on September 15. Among her impressive results at home was an upset win in the group 1 One Thousand Guineas in a race that put her firmly on the radar.

Hard Not to Like - made her 2012 debut with a good second place finish in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland on April 7 after a good juvenile campaign. Her only other start of 2012 came back in May - a sixth in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. Last time out was a disappointing fifth in the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes at Gulfstream February 9 after a nice win in the Grade 3 Marshua's River Stakes at Gulfstream January 5 and an eight month layoff. She has four wins and a second in nine career starts.
Old Tune - Impressive Brazilian bred Todd Pletcher trained mare is on a tear. She won four straight races at home before her debut in North America including three group I turf events that comprise Brazil's Filly Triple Crown at Hipodromo Da Gavea in early 2012. The North American debut was an impressive win in the Grade 3 Endeavor Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs February 2 to make it five straight and last time out was yet another win - in the Grade 3 Hillsborough Stakes also at Tampa Bay March 9. Don't sleep in Old Tune - she is more than used to winning!
Quiet Oasis - made her 2012 debut with an impressive win in the Grade 3 Wilshire Handicap at Hollywood Park on April 29 and followed it up with a very good result - a second in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes also on that track. She raced in July to another impressive score in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Mile at Hollywood Park and then endured an eight month layoff. She returned March 24 to a respectable third in the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes.
Ausus - makes her graded stakes debut Saturday after racing two straight minor stakes races. Last time out was an OK third in the Bayou Handicap at Fair Grounds February 23 after a second in the Marie G. Krantz Memorial January 26. She has three wins, three seconds and a third place finish in 10 career starts.
Abaco - had a pair of sixths to start her career but has placed in all 11 starts since. She had a four race win streak including three Allowance Optional scores before her stakes debut last time out. That race resulted in a surprising second in the Grade 3 Suwannee River Stakes at Gulfstream February 9. She looked terrific last year and her step up in competition last time out didn't seem to be a huge deal for the Claude McGaughey trained mare.
