2012 Smarty Jones Stakes Race Favorites
Teeth of the Dog - had a string of two straight wins - the minor Easy Goer Stakes June 9 and the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes interrupted by a fourth last time out in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes in the mud at Saratoga. He had a respectable fifth in the Preakness and before that was a decent third in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct on April 7. Teeth of the Dog looked to be in top form for trainer Mike Matz before the most recent outing and will be looking to rebound on Monday.
Prospective - won the minor Victoria Park Stakes at Woodbine on June 10 and followed that with a win in the Grade 3 Ohio Derby at Thistletown on July 7. Last time out was an uber-disappointing eighth in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy and like Teeth of the Dog; Prospective will be looking for a bounce-back effort on Monday. Earlier this year Prospective was eighteenth in the Kentucky Derby to follow a sixth in the Blue Grass Stakes on April 4 and two wins in three races - the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby and the Pasco Stakes.
