La Jolla Handicap at Del Mar

Las Vegas, NV - The Grade 2 La Jolla Handicap goes down this Saturday August 11 from Del Mar Raceway in beautiful Southern California. Three year olds will go 1 1/16 miles on Del Mar's turf track as they chase their share of the $150,000 purse.

The La Jolla has attracted a small field of five to go in race 8 on Del Mar's Saturday card. Post time is 5:30 PM. All of the entries in the La Jolla recently ran in the restricted Oceanside Stakes here - three in the first division and two in the second division. Here is a look at the past performances of the five combatants and what we can expect on Saturday.

2012 La Jolla Handicap Race Favorites

My Best Brother - won the first division of the Oceanside most recently by two lengths to follow up two other wins - a Maiden Special Weight and an Allowance Optional Claiming at Hollywood Park. Three straight wins - one being the major tune-up for this race makes My Best Brother the horse to beat this Saturday.

Old Time Hockey - Tom Proctor pupil finished third in the first division of the Oceanside to follow up a win in an Allowance in the race before at Hollywood Park on June 1. In eight career starts Old Time Hockey has two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes.

Chips All In - has won three stakes races in his 10 career starts and most recently finished second in the second division of the Oceanside. Among his wins are Pasadena Stakes on March 23, the Eddie Logan Stakes on New Year's Eve and the Gold Rush Futurity. He has proven in the past that he can compete even though his recent results aren't that encouraging.

Blingo - Blingo was an impressive winner in her first career start in November but finished 6th in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity on December 17 and sixth in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita on March 10. He did record an impressive stakes win in April - the La Puente Stakes before finishing fifth in the Grade 3 Affirmed Handicap and fourth last time out in the Oceanside. Blingo has just six career starts with two wins.

Facoltoso - English bred Facoltoso was sixth in the Oceanside last time out in his US debut but does have two wins and two second place finishes in six starts this year.
