Destin Wins Tampa Bay Derby at Tampa Bay Downs
Tampa Bay Downs in Tampa, Florida was the scene of the $350,000 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby Stakes on Saturday, March 12 - a 1 1/16 mile Road to the Kentucky Derby points qualifying race for three year old hopefuls. Twin Creeks Racing Stables' 7-2 third choice Destin provided his connections their second straight win at Tampa Bay - this time in track record time. With the win Destin earned 50 qualifying points toward the Run for the Roses in May. Outwork claimed second and 20 points at 4-1 odds while 14-1 shot Star Hill got in for third and gained 10 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. Rafting finished fourth while Tale of S'avall, Riker, 2-1 favorite Brody's Cause who was bumped at the start, Awesome Banner and Economic Model completed the order of finish. Morning Fire scratched.
