Gun Runner Wins Whitney Stakes at Saratoga Race Course

The $1.2 million G1 Whitney Stakes took place Saturday, August 5 at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Horses three years old and upward were featured when they took to Saratoga's dirt track and raced 1 1/8 miles. To nobody's surprise, it was 4-5 favorite Gun Runner that cruised to the easy 5 1/4 length win - his second straight G1 score. 3-1 second choice Keen Ice got in for second thanks to a good stretch run with 8-1 shot Breaking Lucky claiming third in the field of seven. War Story was fourth while Discreet Lover, Tu Brutus, and the three-shoed Cautious Giant completed the order of finish.
