Diplomat Wins New York Turf Writers Cup Handicap at Saratoga Race Course

The $150,000 G1 New York Turf Writers Cup Handicap was contested Thursday, August 24 at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. Horses four years old and upward took to Saratoga's hurdle course and raced 2 3/8 miles. Flying Elvis Stable's 17-1 second-longest shot in the field Diplomat shocked what was a pretty good field by posting a relatively easy three length score in Saratoga's premier steeplechase race. Robert A. Kinsley's 2-1 race favorite Modem finished an OK second with 5-1 second betting pick All the Way Jose claiming third, another 1 3/4 lengths back. Choral Society was fourth in the field of 10 while 5-1 third choice Swansea Mile, Show Court, Mr. Hot Stuff, Casino Markets, Alcazar de Maram and Three Kingdoms completed the order of finish. Colla Pier and Portrade scratched.
