Las Vegas, NV - The $350,000 Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes was contested at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York on Monday, September 1 - closing day at Saratoga. Todd Pletcher trained Competitive Edge did what most expected and prevailed in the field of seven juveniles by an easy 5 3/4 lengths at 3-5 odds. I Spent It finished second at 8-5 odds, nine lengths ahead of the 24-1 shot Sharm. Requite, Dekabrist, and Signature Cat followed. Maratik was eased in the stretch.
