Queen of The Sand Wins Santa Barbara Handicap at Santa Anita
Las Vegas, NV - Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California played host to the $150,000 Grade 3 Santa Barbara Handicap on Saturday, April 18 - a 1 1/4 turf test for older fillies and mares. Queen of The Sand rebounded from an eighth-place finish in the Santa Ana Stakes March 15 and won her first graded stakes at 6-1 odds - by a nose in the field of nine after rallying from eighth. Pacesetter and 7-1 shot Fanticola was caught at the wire after leading the whole way and wound up second while slight 5-2 second choice Three Hearts wound up third. Walk Close finished fourth, followed by Habibi, Industrial Policy, Tangelo, and Arethusa. Favored Diversy Harbor was unfortunately eased and later diagnosed with a serious leg injury.
