Dortmund Wins Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita
Las Vegas, NV - The $1 million Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby took place at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California on Saturday, April 4. Kaleem Shah's Dortmund once again proved why he is a serious contender for the Kentucky Derby in a month's time when he dominated the 1 1/8 mile race in wire-to-wire fashion - by 4 1/4 lengths as 3-5 favorite. Dortmund not only earned the 100 qualifying points toward the Derby but he remained perfect in his career and made quite a statement with the win. Stablemate and 8-1 longshot One Lucky Dane finished second and Bolo 2 1/4 lengths back third at 9-2 odds. 3-1 second choice Prospect Park finished fourth, followed by longshots Cross the Line and Bad Read Sanchez, completing the order of finish.
