Shrinking Violet Wins Monrovia Stakes at Santa Anita Park
Las Vegas, NV - The $200,000 Grade 2 Monrovia Stakes went down on Santa Anita's downhill turf course on Sunday, January 4 - a 6 1/2 furlong test for older females. Wesley Ward trained Shrinking Violet provided the upset by a relatively easy 1 1/4 lengths in the field of 11 - at 10-1 odds. Fast closing 4-1 second choice Heat Trap finished second with slight 7-2 favorite Velvet Mesquite getting up for third. Sky Treasure finished fourth with Gender Agenda, Biorhythm, Wishing Gate, Warm Breeze, One More, and Judy in Disguise completing the order of finish in the Monrovia.
