Red Rifle Wins Hawthorne Gold Cup Handicap
Las Vegas, NV - Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero, Illinois played host to the $250,000 Grade 2 Hawthorne Gold Cup Handicap on Saturday, November 29. Horses three years old and upward were featured in this 1 1/4 mile dirt test. Twin Creeks Racing Stables' Red Rifle recorded his first graded stakes victory - in wire-to-wire fashion at 6-1 odds. Mister Marti Gras finished a good second with 22-1 shot Call Me George getting in for third. Co-favorite (3-1) Effinex was fourth followed by Ever Rider, Street Spice, Fordubai, Abraham, the other 3-1 favorite Cary Street, Hattaash, and Midnight Aria.
