Sharp Samurai Wins La Jolla Handicap at Del Mar

The $150,000 G3 La Jolla Handicap was run Sunday, July 6 at Del Mar race track in Del Mar, California. Horses three years old saddled up and went 1 1/16 miles on Del Mar's turf track. Overwhelming 6-5 favorite Sharp Samurai bided his time during a paceless first mile and eventually prevailed by just a head in the field of eight. 12-1 shot Fashion Business made a late charge and got up or second while 7-2 second choice Colonist was unable to muster a late kick and settled for third. Placido was fourth with Pioneer Lad, Offshore, Double Touch and 5-1 third choice Monster Man completing the order of finish. Caribou Club scratched.
