John Velazquez (jockey, Main Sequence, 1st) – “(Regular rider) Rajiv (Maragh, who is injured) told me all about the horse and how to ride him. He told me everything good about the horse and he (Main Sequence) did exactly what he said. It was the perfect trip.â€
Graham Motion (trainer, Main Sequence, 1st) – “This is a very emotional day. A year ago on this day, I was in hospital with Johnny (Velazquez) and he was in really serious condition. It’s a powerfully emotional day.
“(Main Sequence) He did everything so well and so easily today. He broke really well and went on from there and did everything great. It really was a team effort (with the previous trainer in England, David Lanigan) and the horse has been spectacular. He’s really suited to American racing and he just gets better and better. He’s a very impressive horse.
“I hadn’t even thought about Horse of the Year now, but I think he should be. Horses don’t win four Grade 1s in a row like that. How many horses can do that? He has to be one of the best I’ve trained.â€
Maxime Guyon (jockey, Flintshire, 2nd) – “Had a perfect trip. In the clear all the way early. I asked him to start running at the three-eighths pole, and he did. I had to stay to the outside. When the winner ran by us, he tried to kick on again but it was just too late.â€
Teddy Grimthorpe (Racing Manager – Juddmonte Farms, Flintshire, 2nd) – “He’s run a really good race. Maxim (Guyon) got him into good position and he’s run on really well. He is still coming good and he’s a still a possible for Hong Kong, or maybe Dubai next year. I will leave that decision up to Andre Fabre.
Javier Castellano (jockey, Twilight Eclipse, 3rd) – “My goal was to be close to the pace, but they went really fast for 1 ½-miles. I had a beautiful trip, finished third and was satisfied with the way he did it. He’s a very steady and consistent horse.â€
Tom Albertrani (trainer, Twilight Eclipse, 3rd) – “It was another good race. He ran well but got back a little far. He finished well and those two horses that beat him are very good horses. The ground didn’t have anything to do with it today. He put in another very good effort and we will regroup and move forward.
Sir Michael Stoute (trainer, Telescope, 4th) – “He’s run a good race, but the race wasn’t really run to suit him. He needs to be able to do it one long progression. He’s a long striding horse for a track like this.â€
Frankie Dettori (jockey, Chicquita, 5th) – “She ran well but she just lacked a gear when I needed her to take a gap and she couldn’t quicken.â€
