2017 Beldame Stakes Preview, Entries & Odds

Elate
Has placed in seven of eight career starts for trainer Bill Mott - three wins, three seconds and a third-place finish. She arrives off a terrific 5 1/4 length win in the G1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga August 19 which followed an OK second behind Abel Tasman in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga July 23, a good 5 1/2 length win in the overnight Light Hearted Stakes at Delaware Park June 15, a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Churchill Downs May 5 and an unfortunate DNF after being pulled up in the G1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland April 8. Before that was an OK third in the G3 Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn Park in March and a second in the minor Suncoast Stakes in February. Elate, outside of one bad outing has represented herself well every time out and hopes to again Saturday with Jose Ortiz guiding her in her first try against older competition - from the rail.
Money'soncharlotte
Kelly Breen trained mare has seven wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in 21 career starts. She enters on a nice four-race win streak - the minor Lady Jacqueline Stakes at Thistledown last time out August 19, the G3 Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth Park July 30, the listed Lady's Secret Stakes on that track July 2 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Parx April 8. Those results followed off-the-board finishes in two previous Allowance Optional Claiming races in November. She has four graded stakes starts in her career and has placed in just one - a third in the G2 Gazelle Stakes in April, 2015. Money'soncharlotte arrives in career-best form ad shoots for a fifth straight win with John Velazquez in the irons from post 5.

Verve's Tale
Has placed in 11 of 14 career starts for trainer Barclay Tagg - three wins, six seconds and two third place finishes. She enters this week off a win in the minor $100,000 Summer Colony Stakes at Saratoga August 20 after a fifth in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes on this track June 10, a fourth in the G2 Ruffian Stakes here May 13, a decent second in the G2 Top Flight Invitational Stakes at Aqueduct April 2 and a fourth in the G2 Royal Delta Stakes at Gulfstream Park February 18. Before that was a two-race win streak - the G3 Comely Stakes Aqueduct in November in her stakes debut and a MSW at Keeneland in October and four straight runner-up finishes in MSW races. Verve's Tale has been decent so far in her career and will be after a second stakes score. Joel Rosario gets the call from gate 2.
Eskenformoney
Has 26 career starts for trainer Todd Pletcher with four wins, seven seconds and six third-place finishes. She has been decent lately placing in seven of her last eight starts overall. Last time out was a third in the G1 Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga August 26 which followed a second behind Money'soncharlotte in the G3 Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth Park July 30 (she was second in the 2016 edition as well), a third in the listed Lady's Secret Stakes on that track July 2, a sixth in the G1 La Troienne Stakes at Churchill Downs May 5, a second in the G2 Azeri Stakes at Oaklawn Park March 10, a third in the G2 Royal Delta Stakes at Gulfstream Park February 18 and a career-best effort - a win in the G3 Rampart Stakes at Gulfstream. Eskenformoney has been decent in her career and will be out to snap a six-race losing streak Saturday. Javier Castellano rides from the outside post 7.
Bishop's Pond

She steps into graded stakes company for the first time Saturday off a forth in her stakes debut - the minor Shine Again Stakes at Laurel Park September 9 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score on that track August 11, an Allowance win at Delaware Park June 14 and a second in a similar race on this track in May. Bombshell steps up in decent form and will chase a first stakes win from gate 6 with Luis Saez tabbed to ride.
Presumptuous
James Bond trained filly has yet to post a win in her 14 career starts but does have six runner-up finishes and three third-place finishes. She makes her stakes debut Saturday on the heels of three straight runner-up finishes - all MSW races at Saratoga. Before that was a third and two more seconds in MSW races. Presumptuous has been OK against lesser company and hopes to finally break her maiden from gate 4. Rajiv Maragh is scheduled to ride.
