Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes 2013 Contenders at Saratoga Race Course

Las Vegas, NV - Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York will play host to the Grade 1 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes this Monday, September 2. Some of the best two year olds in the land will be chasing the winner's share of the $300,000 purse over seven furlongs on Saratoga's dirt track.

The Hopeful Stakes has attracted a field of 10 two year old males to go in race 9 on Saratoga's Labor Day Monday card. Post time is 4:50 PM. Let's take a look into the past performances of all 10 combatants for this Grade 1 stakes - the final stakes of the 2013 Saratoga meet.

2013 Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes Race Favorite Entries

Corfu - Todd Pletcher trained colt has looked very impressive in his two career starts. Last time out was a terrific score in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special August 11 by a nose ahead of Wired Bryan and many of his Hopeful Stakes rivals after a nice MSW score in his debut July 25. He is one of only two graded stakes winner in the field and will be the one everyone is out to get Monday. Corfu is the slight 7-2 favorite on the morning line and departs from post 8 with John Velazquez in the saddle.

Wired Bryan - will race for just the third time on Monday and is coming off a second behind Corfu in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special here August 11. This after a terrific win in the Grade 2 Sanford Stakes July 21 and a 5 furlong MSW score by 7 1/4 length in his debut at Belmont Park June 19. Former assistant to Todd Pletcher - trainer Michael Dilger will be hoping to get the better of his mentor again and has a decent chance with this impressive colt. He is the 3-1 second choice on the morning line and lines up from post 4 and regular rider Shaun Bridgmohan will be guiding him.

Big Sugar Soda - Steve Asmussen trained colt has a pair of MSW starts in his career with a win last time out on this track July 22 after a third in his debut at Churchill Downs June 28. He will have Mike Smith in the irons and depart from post 6 as the 4-1 third choice.

Strong Mandate - D Wayne Lukas trained colt will be making just his third career start Monday after a fifth in his debut and a Maiden score last time out on this track August 17 He lines up in Grade 9 Monday and is 6-1 on the morning line..

Long On Value - Randy Allen trained colt has been very impressive in his young career - three starts and three wins including a pair of minor stakes wins - the 5 1/2 furlong Strike Your Colors Stakes by six lengths at Delaware Park July 29 and the Jamestown Stakes July 6 at Colonial Downs. He is the only entry that is a multiple stakes winner but he steps up into graded stakes company for the first time Monday. He is 8-1 on the morning line and departs from post 2 with Edgar Prado getting the mount.

Lunarwarfare - has two career starts for trainer Michael Yates - a MSW score in his debut at Gulfstream and an OK fourth last time out in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special here August 11. He will be looking to better two of the horses that beat him in the Saratoga Special but is a 10-1 shot in the Hopeful.

King Cyrus - Todd Pletcher colt has one career start - one MSW score that came on this track August 5. He will leave from the far outside post with Javier Castellano in the saddle and goes off at 10-1 odds.

All in Blue - Is coming off an OK fourth in the Grade 2 Sanford Stakes on this track July 21 in just his second career start for trainer Todd Pletcher after a MSW score at Belmont Park July 4. He is 15-1 on the morning line and line up in post 7. He is cross entered in the Sapling Stakes on Sunday as well.

Casiguapo - debuted with a respectable third in the minor Frank Gomez Memorial Stakes June 22 at Calder and went on to break maiden in his only other start for trainer Mario Morales - a MSW on that same track July 20. He is one of the longest shot in the field at 20-1 odds and departs from post 3.

Southern Blessing - Steve Asmussen trained colt will be looking to make a little noise on Sunday after two good career starts - a MSW win at Belmont Park May 24 and a good second as the second longest shot in the field in the Grade 2 Sanford Stakes on this track July 21. Rosie Napravnik will be in the saddle as Southern Blessing departs from the rail as the longest shot in the field - 20-1 odds despite some good career results.
