2012 Canadian Stakes Race Favorites

Laughing - had two straight wins in Europe before shipping to North America where she was seventh in her debut here in the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine last October. 2012 has been better for Laughing on North American soil. A win in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Aqueduct in April was followed by an OK third in the Grade 3 Gallorette Handicap at Pimlico in May and an impressive win last time out as favorite in the Grade 3 Matchmaker Stakes at Monmouth Park on July 29. Laughing has two wins in three starts this year and is an early favorite for the Canadian Stakes.

All Star Heart - had streaks of three straight wins and five wins in six races that end in June when she was an uber-disappointing eighth in a race on July 7. All Star Heart shook that poor result by finishing second by a nose to City to City last time out in the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes at Del Mar on August 12. She has six career victories in 17 starts including the Grade 2 Las Palmas at Santa Anita in November and the minor Redondo and Swingtime Stakes. All Star Heart has looked great at times and will look to prove that her eighth place finish two starts ago was an aberration.

Canadian Stakes 2012 | Remaining Field Entries

Stars to Shine - has won two of her last three starts including the Trillium Stakes and the Grade 3 Ontario Matron Stakes here on July 22. Last time out was a very disappointing ninth in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park on August 18 however. Stars to Shine has six wins, a second and three third place finishes in 13 career starts and will be looking to bounce back from an uncharacteristically poor outing last time out. She finished a close third in this race last year and could be a factor this year assuming she can put the last result behind her.

Kapitale - will make only her second start in North America after the first one resulted in an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes at Arlington Park August 18. She had two wins in six starts in Europe but she also had an eleventh and a sixth in those starts.

Barefoot Lady - will make her North American debut on Sunday after 18 starts in Ireland yielded just four wins, two seconds and three third place finishes.

Moment of Majesty - won the Zadracarta Stakes at 16-1 odds on June 16 and followed that up with a good second in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes here on July 8. Last time out was another victory on this track in the minor Belle Mahone Stakes. Moment of Majesty has only four wins in 19 starts but two of those wins have come over her last three starts. Needless to say Moment of Majesty is in the best form of her career and deserves some attention ahead of Sunday's race.

Smart Sting - Won the Grade 3 Selene Stakes here last September but hasn't tasted victory since. In 2012 Smart Sting has three starts win just one placing - a second in an Allowance at Keeneland in April. The other two results were fourths in a pair of Grade 3 Handicaps.

Indian Pond - made her 2012 debut in the Nassau Stakes and finished a decent third after a third place finish in the Maple Leaf Stakes on this track closed out her 2011. Last time out Indian Pond finished an OK fourth here in the Grade 3 Dance Smartly Stakes. She has three wins and three third place finishes in nine career starts.

Shimmering Moment - started out 2012 in impressive fashion - a win at an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream on January 2 and since has raced to a pair of sixth place finished in a couple of Grade 3 races - the Orchid Stakes on March 31 and the Grey Goose Bewitch Stakes at Keeneland on April 26 and then finished a decent third in the Grade 3 All Along Stakes at Colonial Downs on June 16. Last time out was a second in the Grade 3 Matchmaker Stakes behind Laughing for her best result since January.
