Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar
Las Vegas, NV - Some of the nation's best two year olds will be featured at Del Mar on Sunday, August 5th when the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes goes down. The juveniles will dash 6 1/2 furlongs on Del Mar's synthetic track in search of their share of the $150,000 purse.
The Best Pal Stakes has drawn in interesting group of eight for race 8 on Del Mar`s Sunday card. Remember, the Best Pal is the race that sprung I`ll Have Another to prominence. It has a post time of 5:30 PM. Here is a look at the eight hopefuls in what should be a very intriguing Grade 2 stakes.
2012 Best Pal Stakes Race Favorites
Scherer Magic - has two starts and two wins for trainer John Sadler. He romped to a 2 and a half length win in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship last time out and won his other career start by over seven lengths. He has looked sensational and should be in the conversation on Sunday.
Amarish - had looked unstoppable in his first two races before an ugly result last time out - a sixth in the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship on July 14. He won the Willard Proctor Stakes and a Maiden Special Weight race in his debut in impressive fashion. Many are willing to give Amarish a mulligan and are expecting him to be very competitive this week.

Know More - comes from the same team as I`ll Have Another - J. Paul Reddam and trainer Doug O'Neill are back looking to make a little noise. Know More will make his career debut on Sunday with plenty of buzz behind him.
Miss Empire - no filly has ever won this race but Miss Empire will try to be the first. The Peter Miller trained filly has three career starts - after a poor debut - a fourth in a Maiden Special Weight, she has gone on to win the Cinderella Stakes on June 16 by over four lengths and finish third last time out in the Landaluce Stakes.

Heir Kitty - is the other Peter Miller trained entry and the only other filly in the field. She was very impressive in her debut but takes a huge step up in competition in her second career start. She also will be racing on synthetic track for the first time.
Moreno - has one career start and reportedly looked OK against a decent field in his debut - a third in a Maiden Special Weight on July 1. He lost that race to another Best Pal entry...
Heir of Storm - won the Maiden Special Weight race that Moreno entered in his only career start just barely holding off the second and third place finisher in that race.
K Court - won a $100,000 maiden claimer on April 19 in his debut but has struggled a bit since - a fourth in the Willard Proctor on June 16 was followed by a third in the Everett Nevin Alameda County Stakes last time out at Pleasanton on July 8. He is one of the more experienced but also one of the least accomplished!
